This is what the original statement by the trade unionists is about. They are expressing their fears of Turkification and the destruction of the Turkish Cypriots as a community on the island. No doubt many have contributed to this catastrophe for their community through a misplaced faith in Turkey. I think there are many in the occupied areas who now think of themselves as Turks exclusively and have no link or empathy to the culture and history of Cypriots. They are no different to 'residents' like the carpetbaggers or ex-pats. In this way, Maximus is right to question what place they have on the island. Clearly who is a legitimate citizen, who is an illegal squatter, an overseas resident and who is an illegal settler is something that can be easily determined.
