Erdogan Supports EU Principles

Postby Demonax » Sat Jul 06, 2013 2:58 am

Turkish PM Erdogan has apparently endorsed the EU acquis communitaire in a speech given yesterday – and accused those who disregard it as being guilty of 'double-standards':

The European Union has once again disregarded its own principles with its “double-standard” view on unfolding events in Egypt, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said July 5. “Isn’t the West siding with democracy and making efforts to implement democracy in countries? This is a test of sincerity and the West failed the class again. There is no such thing as a ‘democratic coup’,” the prime minister said in Istanbul...

“Especially the European Union disregarded its own values once again by not calling the army’s coup a coup. I want them to read the EU acquis communautaire. Democracy does not accept double standards,”

In implying that the EU acquis is the basis of democratic values does this mean he now endorses the EU acquis as the basis for a solution in Cyprus? I think we should take him up on it.

He doesnt know what he is talking about because his understanding of the EU aquis is very different than the EU's definition of the aquis. He is just digging a deeper hole for himself until October.

Erdogan cannot support the EU acquis, because he does not recognise it, accept it or will want to practice it. He just like to make pointless noises, so that he can hear his own sound, from wherever they may come out of his body.

Annan Plan was the proof.

Yes, it’s ironic that Erdogan would quote the EU acquis when it suits him. An autocrat playing the democracy card! It takes some cheek! It's typical of the kind of deep-rooted cynicism that characterises Turkish politics.

Thus the reasons as to why half the chapters are not opened by Turkey for EU membership and ONLY one chapter is partially closed.

What more one needs to know as to why Erdogan does not believe in the EU acquis.

What any dictator wannabe Sultan would?
