Visiting in August from UK .. With family., is there still a cashflow issue as the uk news carries the situation no more! I suspect it's okay now but any advice would be welcomed like a pig at at a BBQ! Cheers shreka

Hello Shreka

I haven't noticed any signs of restrictions. Are you planning to use ATMs a lot to withdraw cash? I believe there is a daily limit on withdrawals with ATMs (I haven't used an ATM yet, but I think it's 300 Euros per day) - but if you're using a UK ATM card, you may find that your weekly limit will be exceeded before your Cyprus daily limit is exceeded. You can withdraw as much as you like (some thousands if you have them) from Cyprus bank accounts if you do this with the cashier inside the bank. You can also sign cheques over for as much as is in your account; so there are no problems paying by Cyprus bank cheques.

Have a good holiday. :)

I have found some ATMs in some bank have a transaction restriction of 300 Euro on all debit cards, whether UK or Cypriot: they simply do not allow an option in any one transaction to withdraw more. I have not bothered trying to do two transactions to break the limit. Other ATMs/other banks do not have such a limit so at those ATM if you have a non Cypriot debit card you can take more than 300.

Thanks for your help, we were advised to take all our cash with us, which is dodgy in itself! But as long as we can use ATMs a few times it sounds fine, thank you all.

If I may ask, who advised you to bring cash?

As I said, you will exceed your UK limit before you exceed a Cyprus limit.

ATMs are expensive for Brits unless you have a good bank with a reasonable exchange rate and no charges for using ATMs. Maybe Nationwide? But their rates are poor.

Otherwise I would bring cash as euros (changed at M & S) or bring Sterling and change at a Cyprus bank.

I've just left a £1000 laptop in the back of an open jeep and credit cards, money etc in a handbag on a beach for at least 2 hours whilst snorkeling and all is fine! :D
