my dear lysi let me give you a couple of personal stories.
when i was 1st year at highschool (that means 11? 12 ? doesnt matter) i went to an anti-occupation demonstartion .that was early 90s .at the time when some people, still cared. the demonstration was at the village of astromeritis. it was a demonstartion from the refuggees in the morhpou region.
anyway, with some other kids (dont know how many) we went through the lines of our policemen, and then a couple of UN lines. dont imagine anything violent. how can a kid 12 years old brake police lines? they either let us through, or the kids of the region new some other paths
. anyway we reached the turkish soldiers just outside the factory of pano zodeia. really close to my grandfathers village (which i didnt know at the time). they had guns and it was clear that there is no running towards them. the last UN line wouldnt let us through in any case. behind the turkish soldiers there were civilians. i dont know why.
i had the feeling that i freed my country enough. i took some soil from the ground, from the occupied regions to take it back. (not an original move as you may notice...most probably i read it in a book somewhere.)
returning back to astromeritis happy that i fullfilled my patriotic duty i was shot by the beautiful tsikna smell (smell of meat cooked on grill -the famous SOUVLA). the demonstration was a chance for some relatives to meet and eat souvla. my family included. i remember telling them :is that how you will free cyprus? (as if i just fought and had a couple of villages free). anyway, since then i never went to a demonstartion. never. and since then i cannot stand patriotic talks.
....
the students demonstrations on 15th november. i dont know how it is in nicosia. most probably the presense of the wire makes the students unite. in limassol i went for 7 years in a row. 9 out of 10 students were demonstarting in the local coffee shops or buying clothes. the ones who "cared", half of them went to the EDON place which is next to where the demonstration takes place to take their cyprus flags. the NEDYSI people had to walk a little more to bring their greek flags. never did they shout sth united. never did they say sth that had to do with the reason they protested.
just: I KYPROS EINAI ELLINIKI...and I KYPROS ANIKEI STO LAO TIS.
as a concequence, my dear lysi -just to save you from the trouble of copying-pasting your views in all threads- , it is in vain. take your pass go to the north and try to meet some people. at the time as human beings thats the best we can do.
