Is Cyprus selling its soul....

..or do I mean 'its body'? So now we will give Residency to any National who buys a property costing (I will not say 'worth') €300,000+. Are we whoring our island - or is this a smart move to gain substantial funds from abroad and benefit form the presence (or do I mean 'presents') of high wealth individulas?

Cyprus has always whored itself out to foreign interests like Greece and that has cost us big time. All that is going to come to end!

Cyprus is subservient to no one. Frankly, I feel quite offended.

I agree that figure is far too low.

They've been doing this for a while (to oligarchs; and I thought the figure had a few extra zeros at the end). I believe most countries do such deals with wealthy people and businesses.

What I don't understand is why a foreign national would buy a property to become a resident in Cyprus?

If you have an EU passport, you automatically have residency if you want it anyway. :?

This obviously is directed to Russians.
I entirely agree, after all in the UK you can do so, why not in Cyprus!

This for the Chinese, if 0.01% of their population took advantage of this it would bring in €30 billion!

No it is not directed at Russians. I am talking metaphorically about Cyprus not being allowed its own identity and is always in the shadow of another.

It would be akin to Australia being in the shadow of the UK, which thankfully it is not!

Sometimes, countries like Australia, Cyprus, America and Canada have to be let go like a parent does not own their children, metaphorically speaking!

Yes ok, but if 0.001% came to Cyprus, we would end up being Chinese and Omonia will win the Championship every year.

  that's rich coming from a foreign national!
I would have expect an indigenous GC to make such a post/thread.
