TV SETS IN CYPRUS

Postby miltiades » Sat Jun 22, 2013 8:03 am

On average I watch less than 2 hours of TV a week, I hate soaps, don't get on with films, hate commercials and such rubbish like game shows etc. My viewing is limited to News, some nature programmes- have seen them all- and Al Jazeera which has a wide coverage of international and regional news.

My current TV is rather old, well more than 25 years in fact, my son who is very much into TVs laughs at me and my old set, which incidentally gave to us when he switched to a new set some years back.

Most of my evenings I spent listening to Greek music on my PC, watching and listening to music shows such as Stin Iyian mas
and other shows I discover on YouTube.

As I intend to semi retire in Cyprus I thought is time to get a new set, and I have been advised by my son and of course my young ...floozy to go for a Smart 40" Samsung.
I know nothing about TVs especially the Smart LED type, but I have decided on a set that I will buy next week when in Limassol.

My young lady has a 12 almost 13 year old daughter and her first cousin a 13 year old boy will also be joining them, so to provide them with entertainment I decided on a Samsung UE40F6500 LED SMART, the current price in Limassol is 999 euros less 50euros having joined on line with the sellers, Stephanis.

Any experts on TVs ? Does any one want my old set for FREE ?

There is an Irish lady looking for a 26 inch Murphy......

we have three of the old style CRT type of tv going unused and due to be dumped at the earliest oportunity, since it is hardly worth even plugging a computer in to them, as the screen resolution is so poor, and that is what we mostly use our Tv for, as a computer monitor.

You might find tv over the internet is area restricted and if so I suggest you look at installing something like expat shield or a similar VPN type package , some are free, I use unblockus, which is usd 5 a month but ad free and then you might be able to pick up some Russian language tv. We managed it for mother in law. Otherwise you might have a screaming child.. That or take out a pay tv subscription.

That is a good bit of kit, and if you sign up to Cablenet for internet/phone/TV you will cover your needs and the floozy, as well as the two youngsters.

You can turn any modern TV into "Smart" one with a small android device or something similar with prices starting from about €30. This would be my prefered way because in this way I can upgrade the "smarts" without the need to upgrade the whole TV and I can have smart TV features on both my TV and Projector. Plus its a lot cheaper going this way. But if you don't want to bother with such things then the Smart Samsung LED should be fine and easy to setup.
