Do I need a visa to travel to the USA now that Cyprus is an EU member?

Your Passport may be acceptable, depending upon your nationality, if it is one of the Machine Readable (MR) type; check with the US Embassy website. Many people do not require visas.

When you arrive now they take 'thumbprints' as well as pictures at Immigration; do not joke with the Immigration Officers, they have little humour and can just turn you away, without any appeal against their decision.

Is the passports we have in Cyprus of this type? My passport is 3-4 years old.

If you look at the last page on your Passport, you know, the one with the picture of that handsome man on it , at the bottom there are two lines of print, which contain, amongst other stuff: the country that issued your passport, your Initial/name, then your first name(s) then on the second line your passport number, your DOB (back to front!) and a code. The first line looks something like this:

Check for full details on the US Embassy website, but my opinion is that if you have a MR passport you do NOT need a Visa, depending upon your nationality - but please check what I ma saying!
