Bringing my own car to cyprus

Postby miltiades » Thu Jun 20, 2013 8:00 am

I'm considering sending my car to Cyprus and I'm wondering whether doing so will be more costly than buying a car in Cyprus.
I have had my car since new, it has 60,000 miles on the clock, in excellent condition although its now 10 years old.
It's a Jaguar X-Type 4 door saloon and I'm very attached to it , it drives beautifully and has never given me any problems, equipped obviously with air conditioning etc.

I'm not certain what the duty, vat etc would be applicable .
Any advice ??

There is no VAT, a Registration Fee of €150, plus Excise Duty based on engine capacity.

Motor vehicle with Annual Road Tax
engine of cubic capacity C (cc) € cents per engine (the first rate is Excise Duty, the second rate is Road Tax. There are certain variations realting the Co2 emissions).

<£1450 cc 0.17086 0.04272
1450 cc < C £1650 cc 0.25629 0.05980
1650 cc < C £ 2050 cc 0.42715 0.11960
2050 cc < C £2250 cc 0.51258 0.14523
2250 cc < C £ 2650 cc 1.02516 0.19649

Thank you Svetlana and a very good morning to you.
I must admit the figures you gave are a little ...complicated !
Would you be kind enough to clarify ?

Go here Milti http://www.mof.gov.cy/mof/customs/custo ... enDocument

You just need to enter the relevant details and it should tell you how much you have to pay.

Thanks for the info.
I take it that duty free for returning Cypriots is no longer applicable.
According to the chart the duty amounts to a staggering 15,000 euros!!!
Definitely not worth it.
Does anyone know if Cypriots returning home have had the duty free removed?

Milti depending on the cars cc you could pay more than its worth if you bring it over, small engines are little cost but big engines can run in to thousands of euros.

Email this British Cypriot lady in Larnaca, she is the expert on car imports loads of people do it thru her or ask advice at least, she's brill and could save you a fortune. Cars come into Limassol and roll on roll off is cheaper but don't put anything in them as it will go missing on the high seas! If you can it's wise to put them in your container with personal goods and locked, but RORO should be under a thousand to ship a car.

I'm really sorry I don't have her phone number but she's answers emails and hers is [email protected] we all know her as Foda. I brought a car in thru her in 06 when it was much harder but still she helped me avoid huge duty tax then as it was a small engine, even though duty is abolished now, emission charges on big engines are being charged.

Hope that helps :)

this not duty as such but an excise tax levied on all Eu origin imported cars. They had remove the duty free status for returning Cypriots on entering the EU.

Milti if you car is over 10 years old you will get a very large discount on the calculation.

The discount is derated over the 10 years.Duty free is still possible if you can show you have come over permanently to stay. You will not be able to sell the car again for 10 years unless to pay the remaining duty which is also derated over the 10 period.

What engine size is your car??
