The discount is derated over the 10 years.Duty free is still possible if you can show you have come over permanently to stay. You will not be able to sell the car again for 10 years unless to pay the remaining duty which is also derated over the 10 period.

What engine size is your car??

Thanks mate.
The car will be 10 years old in September 2013
The engine is 2496 cc.
I have only done 60,000 miles in 10 years and it drives like a new car.
I did look at similar size cars in Cyprus but my goodness aren't they expensive!!

I shall have to confirm duty free status. I intend to spend more than 6 months a year in Cyprus.

Last time I checked for a car over 2000cc it was 2€ per cc in duty. But with your car being 10 years you are likely to get either (and I am not entire sure here) 90% discount or may not even charge a duty. It would be worth bringing the car if it is in good nick as any similar her, would coast an arm and a leg.

Did you try the calculator (from the link provided) to see what it comes out to?? You may be pleasantly surprised. Foda, is good, and can help you every step of the way from docking to registration.

Email this British Cypriot lady in Larnaca, she is the expert on car imports loads of people do it thru her or ask advice at least, she's brill and could save you a fortune. Cars come into Limassol and roll on roll off is cheaper but don't put anything in them as it will go missing on the high seas! If you can it's wise to put them in your container with personal goods and locked, but RORO should be under a thousand to ship a car.

I'm really sorry I don't have her phone number but she's answers emails and hers is [email protected] we all know her as Foda. I brought a car in thru her in 06 when it was much harder but still she helped me avoid huge duty tax then as it was a small engine, even though duty is abolished now, emission charges on big engines are being charged.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks Milo, I have just emailed Fotoulla.
Regards

Good choice. I don't know her, but since you don't seem to know what you are doing, you will need all the help you can get.

Her telephone number is 97820657.

After a bit of playing around with the customs spreadsheet, I reckon you will only have to pay about €4k.

Apparently, I'm told, I can apply for duty free subject to proving permanent residence in Cyprus, this will be done after 12 months in Cyprus.
I think its only fair that a car I have owned for many years now should ...accompany me to Cyprus without have in to fork out ridiculous amounts of dosh.

The can take it from my STOLEN savings. Bastards!

Milti, at 67 what you should do is sell that huge car and buy your self a brand new 1500cc Japanese hatch to get around in Cyprus for the next 10-15 years.

At least that’s what a wise 67 year old would do.
