Yes, I mentioned it in the first post. I see your point but I disagree that we should boycott participating in sporting events. We have every right to attend as an internationally recognised country - especially in Turkey. By being there we make this point. And by the pirate state not participating in the same event in Turkey, it makes the point even louder. Of course if Turkey tried to pull any tricks involving the pirate state or disrespected our athletes then we should withdraw. But otherwise we should not stoop to their level. We are there as the only legitimate representatives of Cyprus. And there is nothing Turkey can do about it.

Hold your horses, that was not the official site, let's see what is shown when we win something.

Wrong, we are representing the Greek Administration and it implies that there is also another administration which there isn't that's my point.

Just be no stating the team from Cyprus, should have been enough to withdraw and there isn't anyone that would have found fault with that. Does the Greek Administration have a unique flag, F no, it is that of the RoC. Pure and simple.

Why you guys just want to bend for Turkey everytime is beyond me.

There would be a convention laid down by the Games Rugulatory Body.

Turkey can't get around that.

We are not representing the 'Greek Administration'. We are representing the Republic of Cyprus and our flag is the flag of the Republic of Cyprus. There is no other 'administration' participating in the games. According to the ICMG who run the games this is the list of countries ...http://www.cijm.org.gr/en/noc. What the Turks choose to call us is their problem. We are there because we represent the Republic of Cyprus. And there is nothing Turkey can do about it. In my book, we should rub our international recognition into their faces. On their own soil. Not walk away from the chance to do so.

They shouldn't go. They should make a point of boycotting Turkey for its treatment of the protesters. That way, it leads the way for when the International Olympic Committee meets in September. By going, it sets a precedent that it's safe for them to award the 2020 Olympics to Istanbul.

Major opportunity missed.

Is anyone else boycotting the games because of the protests? If they were, fine. But on our own it would make us look petty because no-one else has boycotted them. Meanwhile we are in Turkey as the legitimate representatives of the island and have forced Turkey to face up to the fact that the ‘trnc’ is an illegitimate entity. Why should we boycott ourselves and withdraw from international sporting events and do Turkey’s dirty work for them? It makes no sense.

Yes, the Turkish authorities will be on their best behaviour (in so far as these Games go) with the IOC about to award the 2020 Games.

... and so far it's been a warm welcome, and credit where it's due, esp from the Mayor of Mersin.

... and we can look forward to the flag of the Republic being paraded and with a bit of luck flown at medal ceremonies.

Unofficial site do not mean a thing as to how they state the country of Cyprus on their site but only what the official sites say. But if any Cypriot unofficial site wants to get even, they can state Turkey under the banner of, Turkey/Kurdistan.
