Found out yesterday that a close friend died suddenly of a heart attack while watching TV and this afternoon we were at his funeral.

It was our first Cypriot (in fact our first) funeral since moving to Cyprus more than 9 years ago and at the moment we still cannot decide if we prefer funerals the way we're used to in UK or that they're done quickly and everyone feels they should go. We didn't queue to say our goodbye's to our friend in his coffin in the church but preferred to remember him as we last saw him, in fine fettle and good spirits.

Hopefully, the next few days will see some improvements but it's very hard to think we won't be able just pop along to his shop round the corner any more for a coffee and a natter with him and his friends.

There's no reason to feel sad about this. Death is inevitable. Enjoy life while it lasts.

Yes GR should enjoy what little time he has left  (before it's time to cook him). :)

So sorry to hear you have lost a friend, Julie. He must have been on the young side from what you say. Sadly, you get to a certain stage, not long enough, after weddings and baptisms, when funerals rear their ugly heads. I physically cannot cope with funerals and like a coward have sent my hubby alone to various close friends' departures. The vacancy they leave in your life for evermore is more than enough to contend with. I really feel for you and the spasms of pain you have to endure each time you go somewhere you expect to see him at.

All the best and I hope your days improve.

My thoughts are with you Cap and Julie. Really sorry for your loss.

I really sympathise.

This morning at 3.09 am, I got a message that someone very special to me passed. She was like a mother to me. My mum's sister.

Her son asked if I could come to the Funeral and be a pull bearer. I called work to go home on compassionate grounds, and it was declined because of the immediate family rule or whatever.

I still have not told her son who was with me when me father died. Truth is, when I needed him he was there. Now that he needs me...

I still have not told him and everyone is hoping I will be there on Friday.

It is really awful when you can't even be there for your family.

Even my kids fear that I have abandoned them.
