NATO: Security for Greece and Turkey but not Cyprus!

Postby Paphitis » Sat Jun 15, 2013 7:54 am

Have any of my loving compatriots ever asked themselves this question.

Why has Turkey never attempted to invade an island or 2 in the Aegean? Some islands are only within 10 kms of the Turkish Coast!

There was an incident at Imia, but even then Turkey was forced to withdraw. NATO and the invisable hand of the US at play.

The only reasonable answer that I can think of, is that Greece is a member of NATO. It's territorial integrity is guaranteed, and so is Turkey's.

Greece is safe from Turkey. Turkey is safe from Greece.

However, Cyprus has never had any such Guarantees. The RoC is not a member of NATO, and to top it off, we have the most ludicrous Treaty of Guarantee with Greece and Turkey as Guarantor Powers.

Give me NATO any day! I can't believe that some politicians can't smell the coffee.

We are a member of the EU and the only EU member that is excluded from all EU security summits but Turkey being a non EU member but a member of NATO is allowed to observe.

I think this nonsense must end ASAP! First the PfP, then do whatever it takes to get rid of the Turkish Troops and become a full NATO member...

Well, no one touched the TCs and you're in fantasy land I'm afraid.

If Cyprus was a member of NATO there would be no way Turkey caould touch Cyprus! A NATO member invading another! Pull the other one mate!

Yes a very useful post by halil. It confirms a couple of things.

The RoC can't accept the continuation of The Treaty of Guarantee. This is a fundamental security concern for us.

Therefore, to move forward, there needs to be an alternative that meets the security needs of all RoC citizens. This is our red line!

Enough is enough!

Ignore it.
Spoken like a little 12 year old.
Never mind that her 'daddy' is molesting her, she still has the gall to point fingers at her own countrymen.
Bitch is still living on another planet in history.
