Britain's positive role during the 1974 Coup/Invasion

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Absolutely not Ocean!

According to British sources, the Royal Navy was monitoring the invasion fleet and in position ready to prevent the Turkish fleet from landing.

That too is evident in the documents I posted and from Callaghan's testimony.

The Brits were not escorting the Turkish Navy!!!

That is what I am saying Ocean!

What's in the past is in the past. We can't turn back the clock. What is important is a mindset change and understand and accept the mistakes we made which unfortunately contributed to the mess.

Then move on with a plan and strategy to try and work things out. Engage other countries, particularly the US and other large EU countries. The important thing is what to do from now on. It is difficult, but we do now have some things going for us.

mindset change into what?...When most of us still think and act as if its September 1974, just after the war and not one iota of change has happened in 40 years...Where we still think that the moral perception of world opinion is still on our side, where most of the world doesnt give a flying fu#@k...about Cyprus or the occupation..Where most of our newer generation sees the occupied areas as something foreign and distant.... and on and on and on...how do you change from that mindset...And with all due respect I see it on these forums everyday...kind of test out my fellow Cypriots to see their reaction and they keep acting as I expect  ...lol

Yes Ocean, this is a big problem.

We still talk about the Amerikani and Englezi but in reality we are behaving like dorks!

We need to take our rightful place as a Western Country friendly to US and UK. In fact we need to make it our mission to engage them and bring them into the fray for the sake of future generations. We need their help basically.

Cue for Cypriots to call me a traitor!

Not much thinking has changed since the war in 74...The idea back then was that Greek Cypriots would create an economic miracle on the free side and with the embargo, it would bring the Tc into line with Gc thinking..The economic miracle was a success but the Tc coming into line failed....

and when will you finally realise that this policy has been disastrous for unification of cyprus and the longer it lasts the more difficult unification becomes. assuming that it is already not too late.

You exalt yourself. In order to be called a "traitor", you would first have to be a Cypriot. And, you are not a Cypriot.

You are just another Australian with irrelevant-to-Cyprus views.
