Well I have no clue what the issues Milti is eluding to.

But, the point here and the issue at hand is this! Cypriots are ooen minded people keen to learn from others in order to improve! Greeks kike Kurupet and Oracle are closed minded still thinking they are the cradle of the Western World!

I don't know which establishment your brother retired from but making such a grievance implicates this school in Paphos.

We made inquiries a few years back and having spoken to one of the Cypriot Ministers of Education they assured me that this school even though it's private, in order to operate in the Republic of Cyprus it has approval from the Cypriot Minister of Education and Culture. In fact, I heard a lot of good reports and it has a high University entry rate including University of Cyprus (which is very difficult to get into) and many UK universities.

I think it's a really poor show when foreigners denigrate Cypriot schools purely from gossip (as stud has done - what's the point of his question to us?) and prejudice as the usual forum fools do.

I don't know why anyone would even want to get into the University of Cyprus.

Surely you would opt for a University in the UK!

I too have heard good things about the American Academy. Apparently it is the place to send your kids in Cyprus but I am not sure what Milti is eluding to.

I would be interested in finding out. Just because it is a Private School and is highly ranked does not mean there may not be some skeletons in the closet.

Honestly, if you could afford it, wouldn't you send your kids to the Anerican Academy rather than rely on sub standard Greek Teachers?

There are private Orthodox Schools in Oz. Kids Registered at the Anglican private schools! Why? Because they are not Greek ones and better than the quite good public system.

All the good Greek Teachers wouldn't work at these Greek Schools either.

Maybe I'm racist....

The funny thing is that the 'American Academy' name is just a franchise. You just pay up and get the name, it's still operated by Cypriots.

That is true Doc.

At the same time, they probably have to meet some additional standards to hold their licence and pay their teachers more which would attract experience.

You're absolutely correct. The name is there because as well as teaching in Greek, it teaches to the English curriculum as well (I believe) for entry to American Universities. Sad when a Greek-teaching school in Cyprus, overseen by the Cypriot education ministers is only applauded by the forum fools because it has the name "American" attached.

If your brother is anything like you, calling kids "plonkers" and dating girls 30 years younger, then good job they retired him! :P
