How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

weak cyprus goverment

Postby lysi » Sat Nov 12, 2005 5:02 pm

The government of cyprus is weak and will never stand up to britain, what we need is younger people in power who will take a stronger line in dealing with the international community where the occupation is concerned.
Cyprus is not britains puppy anymore or is it ?

also when will cyprus get rid of the british bases ?
what do YOU say.

Cyprus is weak and this will not change by having younger people in power. Our only weapon is justce, legality and human rights. The UK, Turkey, USA have more effective weapons, but we have the right on our side and we will never stop fighting for what is just.

Hi lysi

Do you really think the US or UK have any influence on Cyprus? To me they do not; however the EU will have a growing impact.

I believe, in the strict letter of the law, the British bases are not in Cyprus, but actually on British Sovereign land. There presence is not entirely negative, in my opinion.

Svetlana, open your eyes to what is going on politically in the world.

USA wants Turkey as it's ally in the middle east. Its location strategically important to them. Look at Britain, when was the last time it stood up to the USA. As for the British bases, get real...of course they are in Cyprus. They are occupying a small part of our home and we had were forced to give them that land.

The signature which we were forced to sign to get independance from Britain.

How about a referendum to see how many Cypriots want the British bases to remain in Cyprus?

what will a referendum give us?
that 100% of the cypriots want the british bases to leave?
so? will that remove the bases?

whether we were forced or not, we signed that treaty.
besides we have bigger problems right now in cyprus, from another round of patriotic blablabla that will have no outcome

So Main Source, tell me what influence the UK and the US has on Cyprus? In my view our Government is not influenced by these other nations in any way - unless you can tell me how.

While you may resent the British bases, I am correct in saying they are not in Cyprus, in legal terms

Lana with my eyes wide open, I assure you.

The gutless cypriot government will never ask the british to remove the bases.
so how can they remove the turkish occupation if they cant even get rid of the british bases ?

With the UK and USA wanting to keep Turkey on their side...they will use certain measures to keep them happy. Like politically siding with Turkey on the occupation of the north. Or even helping Turkey add last minute amendmants to the Annan plan.
