...when a bull is brought into the palace, the beast does not become a king; but the palace becomes a stable.

i paraphrase of course, but this is the Turkish proverb around which this stuff revolves around.

''ANKARA, Feb 11 (Reuters) - A Turkish prosecutor's office demanded 11 years in jail for a prominent journalist on charges of insulting President Tayyip Erdogan and two ministers in his cabinet, Turkish news agencies reported on Friday.''

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-ea ... 022-02-11/

''Between 2014 and the end of 2020, 160,169 such investigations were launched, 35,507 cases were filed and there were 12,881 convictions, official data shows.''

...and this one makes it tidy,

https://www.al-monitor.com/originals/20 ... %20Article

“The proposed disinformation [law] is vaguely worded and, regardless of how it is worded, it will be used widely,” Akdeniz told Al-Monitor. “I expect hundreds of criminal investigations and prosecutions. In fact, I could be investigated just by speculating that there would be hundreds of criminal investigations.”

...no dissent, anything which does not support the "Turkish" position is allowed; not just Journalists, anyone using a media platform.

...his word is enough.

Speaking to reporters in the eastern town of Agri on Saturday, Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said the president's comments "are instructions to us."

After visiting the scene on Friday, Erdogan said the punishment for burning forests should be "intimidating, and if that's a death sentence, it's a death sentence".

...from 10 years to death, for lighting forest fires; in this case no one died, and the fire was contained.

Interesting that after what he said about invasion of Ukraine, he was not asked about the Invasion of Cyprus? Or perhaps his principle of once the blood is spilt, that land belongs to those who spill the blood?

How stupid can a reporter get? Or is she unaware of 1974?

Let him squirm a bit.

“Turkey’s reputation would not be undermined by Fincanci’s statement,” DEVA leader Ali Babacan said. “But the damage caused by a judiciary that acts according to the bidding of the government is irreparable.”

“I do not agree with what Fincanci said — and neither do a lot of people in Turkey,” Ozgur Ozel, the deputy chair of the CHP parliamentary group, said in a press conference Wednesday. “But in a democracy, you cannot detain someone just because she said something you do not agree with. 41 miners have burned alive in Turkey last month and not a single person responsible for this is arrested. On the other hand, the chair of the Turkish Medical Association makes a statement and she is detained.”
