İdris Baluken, Group Deputy Chair of the BDP party has said, with referenced to Prime-Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s comments about student houses:

“The Prime-Minister gives the impression of having instructed provincial governors to create morality police organisations. With such morality police forces have been abolished even in Iran, the Prime-Minister has demonstrated with comments of this nature just how much respect he feels for life styles.”

He also noted:

“We follow the Prime-Minister’s comments with concern. If you really look into it, there is no such issue in Turkey. I wish to stress that, in the wake of the Prime-Minister’s comments, we are encountering another attempt by the AKP to create an agenda using perception management. We view the Prime-Minister’s latest comments as being mainly targeted at the elections, an attempt at perception management with the aim of consolidating his support base.”

The European Union has underlined that the issue of choosing mixed-sex accommodation should be left down to students and their families, recalling that the “core element of the recent democratization package was the protection of the lifestyles and private choices of every citizen.”

“We recall that a core element of the recent democratization package announced by the prime minister himself was the protection of lifestyles and private choices of every citizen. This is an element that we wholeheartedly welcomed,” Peter Stano, spokesperson of Stefan Füle, EU Commissioner for Enlargement, said in a written statement on Nov. 6.

“The choice on the matter should in principle be one exercised by the students and their families. To our knowledge, there are no European standards regulating the matter, and there are different practices among EU Member States or even within each member state. This is an issue which primarily the Turkish society needs to solve, on the basis of an inclusive consultation process integrating the views of all stakeholders concerned,” Stano stressed.

Füle is set to arrive in Turkey on Nov. 7, only a few days after the EU opened a negotiation chapter with Turkey after a break of nearly three years.

Thank you, and my profuse apologies if I caused you any offence.

In the past few days Erdogan has been pontificating in what he sees as an important issue of public morality.

He is trying (and when he tries, he gets) to get a law passed that will make it illegal for students to reside in mixed-sex halls of residence.

He says... " “This is against our conservative, democratic character,”

His underlings are forming queues to back him on this issue.

Quite preposterously, one, the Interior Minister Muammer Güler, is saying that the issue isn't one of morality but of security in the fight against terrorism as he claims these mixed-sex houses are harbours for terrorists.

Here's how Hurriyet reports this particular clown...

"...Interior Minister Muammer Güler brought another dimension to the debate on mixed-student housing, arguing that many of these apartments harbored terror and other illegal activities, such as prostitution.

“We are considering the issue from the viewpoint of a fight against terrorism. Particularly apartments, student residences and lodging houses where university students are living are places that terror groups and other illegal groups are seeing as a resource for gaining support and finding new members,” Güler said during a press conference on Nov. 6 in Ankara. ..."

Stpier, why are you so against freedom of information?

Who are you, Erdogan's right hand man for anti democracy and freedom of expression?

What's it to you why Tim posts anything that has to do with the Gezi movement?

What are you afraid of, that he is posting facts, as if the rest of the world outside Turkey doesn't already know what they are.?

BBC and CNN made sure the world knows about the Gezi movement with 3 hours of uninterrupted coverage of police brutality on the Gezi movement supporters.

We know you are a racist individual towards "Greek Cyprus" and that's your prerogative, but how do you stand to live in the "trnc" when almost every TC is a "Greek Cyprus" citizen? Are you then not "sleeping with the enemy" the TCs, in your own bed? The only ones who do not have "Greek Cyprus" citizenship in the "trnc" are the Turkish Illegal Aliens, and given half the chance, they would become "Greek Cyprus" citizens also.

As a TC, I very much appreciate everything Tim posts here on the CF, specially anything to do with the Gezi movement, therefore, he is not about to stop no matter how much you would want him to do so. In another words, you are wasting your time here in trying. For someone who claims to have been at the Gezi demonstrations against the government’s brutal attacks against the innocent protestors, you do not come across that at all, but more like a right wing fascists supporter of Erdogan. Your actions speaks louder than your words, which does not look too good for you I'm afraid. Now, run along and let Tim continue his postings since he is living in a Democratic country where he is allowed the freedom to exercise his freedom of expression, unlike in Turkey.

You, a Gezi movement supporter? Yeah, right!

kikapu, it is easy for stpier to support laws that do not affect him/her; if there is a law that was unliked it would simply be broken, dismissed, or ignored: what do you expect from such a criminal mind.
