Perhaps I could also take this opportunity to extend my belated expression of admiration to the plucky Greek people in rejecting the fascist dictator Benito Mussolini's ultimatum, at great cost to themselves, seventy-three years ago yesterday.

and hungry bankrupt Greece + hungry bankrupt south Cyp could wipe off China off the map if they joined forces.

why not it was done before

Greece wiped Turkey off the map and Turkey ended up being 7 times bigger than Greece

Turkey didnt loose a fingernail during WWII, Greece was fighting to eradicate Mussolini and Hitler, and played a vital part in defeating these two(Italy,Germany)..where was Turkey?......They were first in line to receive aid from the victors(Allies). What has Turkey ever given to the West, politically, culturally or militarily?.....absolutely nothing..

It is nice that you commented on our Republic Day. Thanks to Atatürk, Turkey defeated Britain, Italy, France and your "superhero" Greece all alone. What has Turkey given to West? Ask it NATO and they will be delighthed to respond. Turkey and Greece would have been rivals 20 years ago but now you are wayyyyyy behind and an insignificant country in world affairs. Now let me watch Japanese prime minister attend opening of Marmaray and congratulating our Republic Day.

Yes, apologies from me for missing this event. We should all remember the significant contribution that Greece played in the defeat of the Axis forces, and in particular the sacrifices of the Greek peoples as a result of the Nazi invasion.

Republic Day in Turkey marked by rallies and ceremonies including an alternative Kemalist rally org'd by the main opposition party.

From http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/Defaul ... sCatID=338 ...

"... With a series of official ceremonies being customarily held to mark the 90th anniversary of foundation of the Republic of Turkey at different spots across the capital city, tens of thousands of people gathered in Tandoğan Square for an alternative celebration.

The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) and the Workers’ Party (İP) held a joint rally along with a number of civil society organizations including the Turkey Youth Union (TGB) and the Kemalist Thought Association (ADD) in order to mark the day in Tandoğan Square, which is a couple of hundreds of meters away from Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey..."
