Two students in the city of Samsun, 23-year-old Yıldırım Beyazıt and 22-year-old Mert Deniz Özkaya, are being prosecuted for publicly throwing darts at a dartboard with a picture of prime-minister Erdoğan stuck onto it during a visit to the city made by the prime-minister last August. The public prosecutor is calling for a two-year jail sentence.

Yet quite recently an Erdoğan supporter being interviewed on television described the leader of the opposition as being "a hair in Erdoğan's bum", which I would consider to be pretty libelous, but of course no action is being taken against her - such as for insulting a leading statesman under article 301 of the Penal Code. (Actually, I think the first amendment to the US constitution is the way to go, and everyone should have the right to say what they like, but in Turkey nowadays those who open their mouths in criticism of Erdoğan and his party find themselves hauled before the courts, while those who slander members of the opposition can do so with impunity. This is clearly unjust.)

A pretty well-known TV presenter has been sacked from her job.

Her dismissal came after criticism from Erdogan's AKP party spokesperson.

The spokesperson had earlier criticised the presenter for appearing in what he described as an... "extreme dress"... cos it revealed a bit of bosom.

Her employers had previously denied that there had been a parting but later confirmed the bust-up.

Generally being said that the presenter was also dismissed cos of her lack of support for Erdy's way over the top busting of the Gezi Park protests.

Here's a picky of the offending cleavage...

Police are currently intervening against a group of about 200 anti-road demonstrators in the forested part of the Middle Eastern University Campus. The protestors responded to a police order to disperse with stones and bottles, and the police have begun to intervene using tear gas and water cannon.

Those in the know are saying that TV presenters themselves never get to choose what they wear, i.e. it is not the presenter's fault.

This clash was reported to be continuing at around half past nine, with demonstrators holding off the police at the entry to the university premises.

Tim Drayton wrote:The hack group Roj Hack has obtained the text of a speech made by Fetullah Gülen, the leader of a powerful Islamist sect in Turkey, to a meeting attended by policemen, bureaucrats, journalists, businessmen and academics. He apparently asked those present not to take notes, but it seems that somebody ignored this instruction.

If true, the following words attributed to Gülen, in my opinion, are the clearest pointer yet that the AKP and Erdoğan are on their way out:

AK Parti bizim elimizde, bizzat yönettiğimiz bir kurum. Gördünüz işte ne kadar üçkağıtçı, düzenbaz, yalancı, dalavereci varsa üşüştü. O yüzden bu partiyi esas almayın arkadaşlar. Bugün bunu destekledik, yarın baktık çürüdü yeni bir şeyi destekleriz. Onun içinden yeni bir hareketi ortaya çıkarırız.

[translation] The AK party is in our hands; it is an entity that we ourselves control. As you have well seen, all manner of crooks, cheats, liars and tricksters have flocked together. So, do not adopt this party as the basis, colleagues. One day we supported this, the next day we looked and it had rotted and we will support something new. We will bring a new movement out of it.

Fethullah Gülen's lawyer has issued a statement saying that the above claims are untrue and unfounded.
