ISTANBUL- The barricades are being lifted in Istiklal Street. The resistance has ended on the street and in the side streets. But policemen still stand in wait at the top of every street. There is no difficulty in passing along the street or the side streets

ISTANBUL- The people of Kadıköy, on the Asian side, having reassembled and having been joined by those returning from Taksim, are staging a sit-down protest at the ferry terminal. The large group will march on the AKP’s Kadıköy sub-provincial building at 2330. Ataşehir Pir Sultan Abdal Association has provided the group with a sound system.

Tim Drayton wrote:Perhaps ironically, photographic evidence has emerged that appears to show somebody falling off a roof in the course of last night’s disturbances in Armutlu, which may add substance to the official explanation that Atakan died after falling from a building.

Commenting on this photographic evidence, Republican People’s Party member of parliament Hasan Akgöl has said, “Ahmet Atakan is seen falling in this footage. For us, what is important is why he fell. Why events reached this stage, that’s what I focus on. The prime-minister is trying to split this society.” Republican People’s Party member of parliament for Hatay, Refik Eryılmaz, has said, “We watched the footage. His fall from the apartment is clearly visible. In spite of all of this, our goal is for nobody to die or be injured and for the police to act with tolerance. We cannot solve problems with gas and canisters alone.”

Journalist Kutlu Esendemir, who has shared this photograph that he took in Cihangir, reported a few minutes ago to BBC Turkish on the situation in the quarter as follows:

"Now the police are passing before me. They have reached Coşkun Street, the middle of Cihangir. They are descending in the direction of Roma Park. There are steps here painted in the colours of the rainbow. The police fired plastic bullets and tear gas canisters at these steps."

"Now they are moving back towards the interior of Cihangir. From the distance, the sounds of what we think is plastic bullets are coming. This evening an excessive number of tear gas canisters were fired. The police have also been using a white powder for three days. This powder, when wetted with water from water cannons, causes coughing and nausea. They used an excessive amount of this powder this evening."
