ISTANBUL- With tension continuing between the police and demonstrators in Istiklal Street and its side streets, in Beyoğlu’s Örnektepe Quarter a group with masked faces has set up a barricade of rubbish containers and benches in Etibank Streek and has set fire to the barricade. The protestors, having closed off the street and shouting slogans, continue to wait.

Perhaps ironically, photographic evidence has emerged that appears to show somebody falling off a roof in the course of last night’s disturbances in Armutlu, which may add substance to the official explanation that Atakan died after falling from a building.

In Hatay at around 1945, while police were intervening against demonstrators in Armutlu Quarter’s Gündüz Street, 15 gunshots were heard.

Upon this, after the police had thrown intensive amounts of tear gas canisters at the area from which the gunfire is believed to have originated, they pulled back through the entrance to the quarter. With armoured police vehicles continuing to wait at the entrance to the quarter, rapid intervention teams continue to wait in the rear.
