Ali İsmail Korkmaz's big brother, referring to the recent arrest of suspects in the case of his brother's murder, has stressed that, while hoping that those arrested really were guilty, they want the real perpetrators and not scapegoats, and, referring to the fact that none of those arrested are policemen, has said that he is convinced that some of those involved were from the police and they will not be satisfied until the police force hands them over.

There was a demonstration yesterday evening outside the offices of the Eskişehir Provincial Governor - who, a week ago was claiming that the demonstrators killed one of their own so as to put the blame on the police - demanding that this boy's killers be found. A day later, the police claim to have arrested the murderers. This shows that the authorities are nervous. And now the boy's family are saying they don't necessarily buy it. I think these are positive developments, especially in a country where there have been state-sponsored extrajudicial killings for years and the perpetrators are virtually never found. Hopefully, Turkey is moving in a direction where such things are no longer possible.

On of those arrested on suspicion of murdering Ali İsmail Korkmaz, identified by his initials of S.K., was taken to make a statement to the public prosecutor. However, a problem has emerged, because by law a lawyer must be present when he makes this statement, and not a single lawyer in the whole city of Eskişehir is prepared to represent him!

A roll call of martyrs at the hands of Turkish state brutality; let us not forget these two Greeks who died in similar circumstances when standing up to the tyrants ...

It now seems that there was only one arrest in Eskişehir and this person has now been released by the court, although he has been forbidden from leaving the country and must report to a police station once a week.

Gürkan Korkmaz, brother of murdered Ali İsmail Korkmaz, has said:

If the perpetrators have been found and arrested, this must be proved. It must be proved in full. Let it not just be said that they have been apprehended and arrested. Let images be shown. Also, in the video cassette lasting a few seconds there is a policeman. A masked policeman in official uniform with truncheon and gun was seen. He was reaching agreement with the gang. They were talking among themselves about what they would do with those who came along. Then the kids come and they thrash them to pulp as though they were chasing rats. They were mercilessly thrashing people to pulp. It is certain that policemen were involved in this affair. If there were also civilians, they were under police protection. These events certainly took place under police protection. The footage lasting a few seconds tells the whole story to those that understand.

I share Gürkan Korkmaz's suspicion that this whole thing is a set up, actually. I am glad to see that the family are sticking to their guns. I think there is a chance that the truth (or some of it) may yet come out.
