How will Turks be spared from it? It seems to be getting more radical by the day/week.

I believe they will, but I am not sure how. Just call it a hunch.

Talking of tweeting, the following picture of Sabri Çelebi, who attacked peaceful protesters with a cleaver in Talimhane, Istanbul, and is now in Moroco, was sent by a mate of his via Twitter:

I was wondering why he would chose a relatively liberal place like Morocco when there are Islamic paradises like Saudi Arabia or Iran to choose from, but it seems that his wife is Moroccan, so that might explain things. He has also apparently bought a return ticket with a flight back on 10 August. I wonder if he will return?

It seems that this fellow was released pending trial on Monday and included in the court’s reasons for this decision was the phrase “kaçma şüphesinin bulunmaması” [no suspicion that he will abscond]. However, the prosecutor objected to the decision at a higher court on Tuesday, and the higher court agreed with the prosecutor and ordered that Çelebi be remanded and that an arrest warrant for him be issued. However, it appears that the arrest warrant had not yet been issued on the day that Çelebi left the country (Wednesday). In fact, the letter needed by the police to execute the arrest warrant has still not been delivered to them!

And Gilbert and Sullivan thought the French gendarmerie were a joke!

PS There exists a bilateral extradition treaty between Turkey and Morocco.

In the case of the murder of Ethem Sarısülük in Ankara:

the public prosecutor has now submitted the indictment to the court.

The offence is "murder through exceeding the bounds of legitimate self defence" pursuant to articles 81 and 27/1 of the Turkish Penal Code.

Article 81 reads: "Somebody who intentionally murders a person shall be sentenced to life imprisonment."

Article 27 applies to cases where the bounds of legitimate self defence are exceeded.

27/1 reads: "In the event that the bounds were exceeded unintentionally where there are reasons that eliminate penal responsibility, if the act was committed in negligence and is penalised, sentence shall be passed with a reduction of between one sixth and one third of the penalty laid down in the law in respect of the criminally negligent act."

However 27/2, which the defence is bound to argue applies, reads: "If the exceeding of the bounds of legitimate self defence came about due to what may be considered to be extenuating excitement, fear or agitation, the perpetrator shall not be penalised."

It’s only worth something if Turkey would want to extradite him. He would even ask for an asylum if Turkey were to make pretend they would want to extradite him back.

They allowed him to leave Turkey for a reason, which was not to embarrass Erdogan's fascistic government.

There may be 5-6 extra ticket sales on that 1630 flight to Casablanca!

Lawyer Önder Öztürk, acting on behalf of murdered Ali İsmail Korkmaz's family, has said with reference to this CCTV footage (which came from a camera in nearby hotel):

“This is the place where Ali İsmail was beaten up. There are people being beaten up in that footage. But it is not really possible from that footage to say and determine whether the person being beaten up in that footage is Ali İsmail Korkmaz or not. Actually, that is not the right way to go about things in my view. Where are the people who were beaten up in that footage? If we come at it from this angle, over and above this case file, we see how an empire of fear has been created. People are seriously beaten up and they cannot go and complain; perhaps they are trying to get treatment outside hospitals. And so they sweep it all under the carpet.”

The story I am now hearing is that there was a computer breakdown which prevented the court order being entered into the relevant data base until 1800 hours on the day on which he left the country at 1630 hours.

That Erdogan's fascistic government has no interest in extraditing him goes without saying, but every attempt must be made to pressurise them. You never know. There are actually four suspects in this case, all arrested for attacking the protestors in the same area with meat cleavers, and the others are still in the country.

Sounds all too convenient to me Tim, so excuse me if i don't buy that Bullcrap. It sounds more like, "listen brother, you have until 6pm to leave Dodge City and never to come back", and not the usual "until sundown" routine, and so he took off at the next available flight to Morocco, thanks to Godfather Erdogan's goons, by giving him a safe passage.

Seemingly, in their report to the public prosecutor, the experts who examined this footage think that it does show Ali İsmail Korkmaz being beaten up, but that the footage is too grainy, was taken from too great a distance and it was too dark for it to be possible to identify the assailants' faces.
