A small summary for today...

Taksim and Gezi have been kept clear of demonstrators.

Erdogan the Gasman addressed a large rally of bussed-in supporters in an Istanbul suburb.

... but there have been a large number of protests in Istanbul, Ankara and in other towns in Turkey. practically all met with outrageous violence by the "police".

Some 500 people gathered outside the "turkish embassy" in the Occupied Area of Nicosia earlier this pm.

Several reports are alleging that burning chemicals have been added to the water targeted at demonstrators. Many pictures on the net of the victims of this alleged use of chemicals.

Strong condemnation from the World Medical Association of the interference by the "police" in the treatment by medics of casualties, of the arrests of doctors, of the attacking of make-shift infirmaries and the attacking with CS gas and water of three hospitals.

Amnesty International equally scathing about the attacks on medical staff and hospitals and of attacks on peaceful protesters . An observer for Amnesty says...

..."I did not see any violence being used by the protesters against the police while I was observing the protests in Taksim or in nearby Cihangir from 8.30pm until the early hours of the morning. During this time police continually attacked protestors with tear gas and water cannon..."

The extent of the current unrest might also be judged from indy media's summary of the past hour or so...

01.29: [Ankara] Armored police vehicles coming from Tunus Street went back after they had bombed tear gas to the crowd. People in the street are remaining.
01.20: [Adana] The clashes in Adana have come to an end. According to preliminary information, two people were arrested and dozens of people were injured.
01.20: [Ankara] Many people gathered at Esat-Tunalı Cross (intersection). They are shouting the slogan "We will win by keeping on resisting."
01.17: [Ankara] Thousands of people gathered at Kennedy Avenue once again. There are lots of barricades throughout the Avenue and the side streets. TOMAs and armored police vehicles cannot enter the streets. People are waiting and shouting slogans.
00.40: [Ankara] The crowd at Kennedy Avenue is mostly dispersed. Protesters state that the police attacks were very brutal and there were people who got burned because of the chemicals sprayed from police vehicles.
00.19: [Ankara] Drivers are blocking the traffic in Tunalı Hilmi Avenue so that the armored police vehicles and TOMAs can not enter the street. Chanting is hearable at every part of the Avenue.
00.18: [Ankara] Tear gas bomb attacks continue at Tunalı Hilmi Street.
00.14: [Ankara] Hundreds of people at the upper side of Kennedy Street are walking again through Tunalı Hilmi saying 'Revolt Revolution Freedom'.
00.09: [Ankara] There has been a police attack to the upper part of Kennedy Avenue as well. Tear gas bombs were used. People are throwing clothes on the street so that protesters can cover their faces from the tear gas. Buildings are being used as shelters to be able to breath properly.
00.07: [Istanbul] In Beşiktaş police attacked the crowd in the center with tear gas bombs. Right now a tear gas cloud is enmeshing the whole center. It is said that along the police forces are some people who are attacking the civilians with knives.
00.06: [Edirne] In Edirne the number of protestors are increasing in the Zübeyda Hanim Park. The crowd is shouting: "Everywhere is Taksim, everywhere is resistance!"
00.02: [Ankara] People living in Esat, Kennedy and Tunalı support demonstrators with whistle, billycan and broiler (to make noise)
....

This thing is far, far from over.

It appears that, to the pressurised water being fired from riot control vehicles at protestors, in some cases the following chemical is being added:

which causes an allergic reaction to the skin, as shown below:

Yesterday in Taksim the police apparently fired devices known in Turkish as 'buhar bombası' ["steam bomb"] - I am trying to find the correct English term - at protestors. These apparently explode in the air then spread as powder, causing blistering and extreme reddening of the skin. The Turkish police acquired these in 2012.

If this is not chemical warfare, then what is it? How come that was the red line in Syria?

Tim, please send this to Camaron (UK) and Obama (USA) to show them how their wonderful, wonderful Turkey is fit to join the Western world and notable the EU that Camaron is ass licking to get them in.

I mean F hell, if this were so in Syria or Iraq or other the USA would be seeking UN resolutions to invade. Double standards, two faced MFs if you ask me. Time someone armed the protesters to defend themselves.

Oh the irony. German Green Party Leader Claudia Roth – a well-known apologist for the occupation regime in the north of Cyprus – gets gassed by Turkish police in Istanbul.
