I hope the Olympic Committee are taking note for September's next selection.

We've heard stories how Constantinople is the favourite. I believe they have appointed some Turk on the IOC panel but hopefully even he wouldn't support holding the Olympics in Erdogan's Turkey!

The police's main target this morning seems to have been to remove the posters and banners that had been put up all over the square, like those shown below adorning the Ataturk cultural centre, and then to withdraw. The protestors are apparently cleaning up the square now.

Another police crackdown on anti-government protesters ...

Riot police have stormed through barricades to clear Istanbul's main square prompting fresh clashes with anti-government protesters.
The big push by hundreds of officers at 9am local time forced many thousands of protesters, who had occupied Taksim Square for more than a week, to flee the area.
Diggers mowed down barricades as police used rubber bullets, water cannon, tear gas and stun grenades to disperse crowds, as activists hit back with petrol bombs, fireworks and stones.

There is no way this is going to stop any time soon. Once they shoot to kill the escalation will be rapid.

Maybe it's Erdogan himself.

This is going to be taken down in no time. The policeman kicked the protester in the head whilst he was down - bad enough - but then he aimed at their heads and fired several shots. The poor man who was shot was only 27 years old (and his name was Etem :( ). I hope he's going to pull through, but he wasn't moving. :(

The police incursion into the park appears to have been very brief and the protestors are back in charge. They are currently broadcasting live on their own TV station, Çapul TV, and everything looks normal:
