Yes it's quite possible... but a very dangerous game... and there is another option for Erdy to distract attention away from his troubles at home, been done by so many authoritarian leaders in the past...

... and that's for a foreign adventure against a neighbouring soft target... 8)

Who knows file... grab a bit of Syria maybe, grab an Aegean islet or two perhaps... hope the Tseri Home Guard are at a high level of alert.

I've seen them Turks take some savage punishment from the regime.

I never witnessed the maniacal, fanatical 'typical barbarian' Turk stereotype in the masses.
Just average protester Joe's being beaten to fu** by Erdogans posse.

Maybe it's just me...

Hasn't the US has been pretty outspoken about the situation...???... and no more promoting Turkey as the model for the region after this.

... oh and Cap, it ain't just you file... the pictures and vids going around on FB, Twitter etc say the same thing to all of us ... images of SAVAGERY by an out of control "police".

A friend writes elsewhere of the situation in the majority Kurdish Alevi town of Tunceli (aka Dersim) over in the east of Turkey,

...which includes the first ref we've seen to the use of units of the TA in subduing the pro-democracy actions...

23.40:
[Dersim] (local name of city Tunceli) tension started around 19.00 turned into a clash. Locals stoned AKP HQ, broke the window of it. Clashes rose step by step.Police suffocated the city with gas.One person wounded during clashes is taken to surgery.Most of the streets in Dersim have had clashes. Police used rubber bullets against activists. Military convoy has left commando garrison at Atatürk district marched towards city center. Troop made my special forces attacked activists at city center. Clashes continued around the hospital. Special forces(probably soldier) and anti-riot forces(police) attactked activists with TOMAs and armored vehicles.Gas bombs are also thrown to state hospital.Hospital was full of gas and that made patients faint. 5 wounded at state hospital at 23.00

Can just post the following please cos it's pretty interesting, it is somewhat lengthy, cos it gives us a nationwide over-view over just a couple of hours earlier tonight, at the extent of what seems to be developing in to... well, what else can it be called...??? other than a popular uprising...???

Be aware that it comes from "independent media" and is unconfirmed...

23.39:
[Istanbul] Police are attacking people with gas bombs and pressured water at Gümüşsuyu ave,Taksim.

23.38:
[Istanbul] 20.000 people marched to the central building of the AKP (the political party in power) in the center of Sarıyer district. After peaceful protests they leave through Büyükdere avenue.

23.30:
[Ankara] The ten thousands of people, that went on a march from Dikmen, arrived at Kuğul-park. In a statement, Halkevleri called to a general strike, beginnig tomorrow morning. The demonstration ended with the announcement to carry on protesting until interior minister Muarrem Güler resigns.

23.24:
[Istanbul] Police reacts with heavy tear gas around Inonu Stadium.
23.06:
Police started to attack with panzers at Antakya. (a ref to water canon)

23.04:
[Ankara] The police attacked five thousand people marching from Mamak to . Clashes continue.

23.03:
[Istanbul] 100.000s of people have gathered around Taksim square and also the Istiklal Road and the famous Gezi park are overpacked

23.02:
[Ankara] 200 people blocked Bağlar avenue. Clashes ongoing at Bestekar Street near Tunalı Hilmi Avenue.

Police attacked people when they were passing by AKP district HQ at Beylikdüzü, clashes ongoing. (by hq i dont mean a huge building. probably just an office in an apartment block)

[Istanbul] 1500 people, met around Gültepe district, are marching while chanting "Resign Tayyip (Turkish PM).

22.48:
[Ankara] Police retreated back to beginnigs of the Bestekar Street. Police keeps throwing gas bombs. People chant"Marauders here,where is Tayyip" TN:Erdogan called activists marauders before.

[Bursa] In Bursa, fascists attacked a member of Popular Front.

22.41:
[Ankara] Thousands of people coming from Kugulupark joined with thousands marching straight to the Parliament

22.37:
[Istanbul] Crowd coming from both sides of Alibeykoy,merched with those in front of Veysel Karani Cami and march with a general strike banner

22.35:
[Ankara - Capital] clashes have ceased around Kuğulu Park, Kennedy Road, Esad Road and 96'ers Bridge after police have retreated

22.32:
[Istanbul] Police retreated, while deploying heavy tear gas, from Gümüşsuyu region towards İnönü Stadium

22.31:
[Istanbul} The people, protesting in Çağlayan, reached the Şişli Mosque; there are 4 more neighbourhoods, that want to join them.

22.30:
[Izmir] Izmir gathered at Gündoğdu Square at 19:00. The crowd gave a press release and is dissolving at moment.

[Istanbul] In the neighbourhoood Gaziosmanpaşa the crowd increased to 5000 people and is moving towards Pazariçi [Outlet Center].

[Istanbul] 10.000 people started marching from a Cemevi at İkitelli district. They are pouring their hate while chanting "Resign Governmnent"

[Istanbul] The locals of Esenyurt, who met on the square, are chanting: "Tayyip, step off!"

[Istanbul] In Gazi are thousands of people on the streets. Clashes and chants "Government, step off!" are going on.

22.20:
[Bursa] The Bursa Yıldırım Halkevi (a left winged organization) was attacked by a gang of 50 fascists. The fascists devitrified the windows and entered the building. People on-site are pushing them back.

22.19:
[Mersin] In Mersin the people stopped the traffic at GMK- Boulevard and Barış Square. There is no police in this area.

22.18:
[Istanbul] In Kadiköy about 300 people are chanting "Government, step off!"

22.15:
[Ankara] Even there are no actions in Kizilay at moment, the police attacks every group with more than 3 persons with tear gas grenades.

22.10:
[Ankara] The police attacked with TOMAs to people making pots and pans protest in Bestekar Street that is between Esad and Kugulu Park. The people responded to the police and the clashes are continuing.

22.08:
[Ankara] In Eryaman 3rd Section, almost a thousand people aree protesting the government with pots and pans. In Yenimahalle district, 5 thousand people are protesting AKP with pots and pans.

22.06:
[Ankara] The people made barricades at Tunali Hilmi Street. TOMAs are attacking barricades. Clashes are continuing between the police and the public. Thousands are clashing against police on Esad Street. Clashes continue on Kennedy Street. On Libya Street, two thousand people burnt down barricades and continue waiting. In Cukurambar district, 4 thousand university students are continuing clashing with the police.

[Istanbul] The citizens of Gumussuyu (A neighbourhood at 200 meters to Taksim) are telling that the police are moving forward, running over barricades.

22.04:
[Dersim] Police attacked the protests in Dersim (A district in Tunceli city). Clashes are continuing.

22.03:
[Istanbul] Electricity in Sariyer has been cut.

22.02:
[Istanbul] The Buyudere neighborhoods gathered.

22.01:
[Istanbul] The Mahmut Sevket Pasa Health Centre started an action in front of Okmeydan. The neighborhood marches.

21.59:
[Istanbul] In Esenurt, 800 people are walking towards the municipal building, they closed the road

21.58:
[Istanbul] One thousand people started the march in Gaziosmanpasa and 2000 ended up gathering. They are marching on Baglar Avenue

21.55:
[Istanbul] People of Merter went out in the street with pans and pots. Right now they are at Davutpasha. They are marching to Tozkoparan

21.53:
[Istanbul] A group of 500 people keeps waiting in Besiktas Market. The police is waiting 25 metres far from the Prime Minister's office ready for prevention (of the people entereing the office)

[Nigde] In Nigde,(peope) waiting continues in front of the governors house. Activists found support from the people. There is a crowd of about 250 people

[Antakya] People of Antakya marching from Armutlu to Saray avenue.

[Hopa]In Hopa the crowd marches. All Hopa joined the action for turned off lights

[Istanbul]In Sariyer, people of neighborhoods of Kocatas Dagevleri and people of the neighborhoods in Cumhuriyer Omur march to Buyukder side by side

[Adana] In Adana, thousands are shouting “Government resign” in front of AKP building. There are noises of pots and pans everywhere.

21.33:
[Antakya] 17 activists who were taken into custody in Antioch, are released. In Armut neighbourhood, the protests are continuing with songs and speeches.

[Istanbul] People of Sariyer (A district far up north by the Bosphorus on the European side) gathered in four neighbourhoods and started marching.

[Ankara] With the call of Halkevi organization, thousands who have gathered in many neighbourhoods of Ankara are protesting on the streets, shouting “Government resign”.

[Ankara] During the clashes, a municipality worker named Muharrem who is a member of Genel-Is Union (A leftist union), is suffered an eye trauma by a gas bomb thrown by the police.

[Ankara] On Kennedy Street, the police is throwing gas bombs at the people.

[Ankara] The gathering in Kugulupark has passed 10.000. While a group of 100 people are clashing with the police in Kennedy Street, the shop owners who were disturbed from the pepper gas, ran after the policemen with chairs and buckets.

[Antioch] All neighbourhoods in Antioch participated in lights on-off protest.

21.10:
[Samsun] Samsun reactionary fascists attacked the crowd. People stood up against the reactionary fascist. Tomorrow at 18:00, the Samsun Inistiative for the Support of Taksim will gather at the Cumhuriyet Square and march towards the AKP (governing party) building

[Istanbul] Police attacked in Sarigazi, the clashes are continuing.

21.08:
[Kocaeli] In Kocaeli, 4000 people started marching from Cumhuriyet Square to AKP.

[Istanbul] The gathering in Kartal centre has reached 2000.
