TRAMSSCHAPP - School pupil Artemis Pantelis was the bigger winner for Cyprus at the 2013 Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) on Wednesday after striking gold in the Air Rifle event.
The 15-year-old Artemis, who took the gold on her international debut for Cyprus’ senior side, was first in qualifying for the final event and the youngster kept her cool throughout the contest. Second place went to Liechtenstein’s Julia Berginz while third place and the bronze went to Carol Calmes of Luxembourg.
Fellow Cypriot shooter Marilena Constantinou finished fourth.
Cyprus, who departed for Luxembourg with an under strength side due to a crippling lack of funds, are currently third in the medal rankings with nine golds, four silver and eight bronze with hosts Luxembourg current top with 38 medals (13 gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze) and Iceland second with 37 medals (12 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze).
Elsewhere in shooting on Wednesday, Adonis Mylonas took the gold after a tense shootout against countryman Marios Sofocleous in the Trap event while Cyprus secured five medals in swimming.
