Yes well, Greece does have a history of making secret deals with Turkey!

I will expand on this later.

Any deals that were done between Greece and Turkey in 1974 were done under the CIA sponsored Junta regime, the kind of regime that the Americas (often with the support of their British helpers) had installed in several countries around the world with coups and other illegal means.

What is no secret is the deal between Britain and Turkey in the late 50s, which denied to the Cypriot people their right to democratically choose the destiny of their own island (which was union with the rest of Greece). If the desires of the Cypriot people had been respected in the 50s (or even earlier) then Cyprus would have been safe like Crete, Rhodes and all other Greek islands and there would be no 74 and no "Cyprus Problem".

Therefore the British, including those of Cypriot decent, have no right to blame Greece for the problems in Cyprus, when it them who collaborated with the Turks in order to keep Cyprus isolated from the rest of Greece so that they can continue to occupy parts of our island and exploit Cyprus on our expense.

This does not absolve Greece from its responsibility!

The Greek Junta was the Greek Armed Forces, and the Generals were Governing Greece. CIA sponsored or not, they made a pact with the devil!

But since Greece has become a democracy from 1974, you would think that one of the elected administrations accepted responsibility by doing something about it. We are still waiting!

Piratis inflates the support for Enosis via the ill-executed Church vote of 1950!

But anyway, his dull and archaic views on the matter are not worth any discussion. He needs to get with the times...

With regards to EOKA...

Our people thought they were doing the right thing during 1955-59 because they were misled once again by Greece.

They were misinformed that Britain would never abandon Cyprus and that only through armed conflict could they free themselves from colonialism and Greece was only too happy to supply the arms and logistics to see it through.

Greece… the UN member who was well informed of the UN’s agenda and the coming global decolonization law!

The support for enosis was more than obvious. Why do you think the British didn't organize an official referendum in Cyprus as they did in Gibraltar and Falklands? What is inflated and misrepresented in this forum are the views of British born and/or raised people like Get Real and Paphitis, since most Cypriots have Greek as their primary language and participate mostly in Greek language forums.

Even today when enosis is not on the agenda anymore, and still Greek flags fly everywhere in Cyprus. You have to be blind not to notice them. Just open your eyes and you will see them flying in the streets, you will see more of them than the Cyprus flag in the celebrations for the election of the president, the celebrations for the football championship, cup etc.

supporttheunderdog, who are the heroes and who are the traitors in Cyprus is something we decide, not you or any other British colonialists. The heroes are those who fought against the foreign imperialists, for the freedom of Cyprus and Hellenism as a whole. The traitors are those who collaborated with you and helped you to implement your sick plans, and this includes the CIA sponsored Junta of Athens, which took power by force, and was not elected democratically by the Greek people.

Instead of blaming the Greeks for the junta you should instead apologize to them for imposing the Junta on them against their will. Similarly you should apologize to us for refusing to respect our democratic choices and allowing Cyprus to be part of the Greek state, and instead isolating Cyprus by imposing some pseudo-independence, which allowed to the UK and soon after to Turkey, to take parts of our island under their control for their own benefit on our expense.

Paphitis, you are confusing the inability of Greece to help Cyprus and you are trying to make it seem as if Greece is intentionally trying to harm us. Turkey is 7 times bigger than Greece and it is far closer to Cyprus than mainland Greece. I agree that Greece could do more, but it could not liberate Cyprus, as any war with Turkey would probably result in Greece losing more islands, since many other Greek islands are also much closer to Turkey than to the Greek mainland.

You should not confuse Greece with Israel either. Israel is not just the 7 or so millions that live there. They have a rich and powerful Diaspora, and they also have the full support of the USA. They are possibly one of the few countries to have nukes. They also don't care about Cyprus and they will look after their own interests only.
