Do you need 40,000 Turkish troops to babysit for you?

(There must have been a lot of British people hating your guts in the UK for you to feel more comfortable in a military base!)

S, VP and I had fierce debates prior to my resignation culminating in my being banned for life. My views are more than well known.

On this occasion however VP was expressing a personal sentiment irrespective of the fact that he did not use inverted commas on referring to the occupied parts of Cyprus as the trnc.Naturally he would not,- we know his views, we disagree vehemently,- use " in referring to what he calls his country.

I have been involved in political debates for years now, no doubt I shall again do so in the forthcoming weeks and months.
Have agreat day :P

miltiades you grow up and lived in the old Cyprus, our historical chain of event has made sure that has gone forever. The Cyprus I know and love is different form yours its the TRNC with or without inverted commas its where I live, feel safe, belong and at home. Whether there should ever be a desire on both sides to go back to before the bad times then thats really up to the big players of which neither the GCs or TCs are.

I think it is a great pity that this thread about the personal trials and tribulations of one individual has drifted into the political.

Can we just let Milti tell his story and leave the Cyprus issue out?

Agreed, but Milti has hung us out to dry. No more updates for goodness knows how long. Come Milti tell us more.

Members of the Jury, the lady judge addressing the jury in her summing up speech said.

An important question you have to ask your selves in examining the evidenced by the prosecuting council is this.
Would a man of previous good character resort to crime at the ripe old age of 65.

Now, this is some Real Life story....

It was February 14th 2011 when a call was put in my office by someone specifically asking to speak to me, he knew my first and last names.I took the call and a well spoken man with a slight accent introduced himself and told me that he was recommended by xxxxxx, a name that I remembered for a couple of reasons. First that it was a well known name, known the world over, and rather unusual for a first name.

Secondly he had spent with my company almost £20,000 a year or so ago.

I, naturally welcomed the caller who then told me that he was procuring catering equipment destined to the same end user and nation as xxxxx did before.

We arranged to meet the following day .
That was the beginning of a horrid ordeal that I will always consider as one of the worst in my life.
I will continue some time later....

11am the following morning, Saturday the 12th February 2011, a casually and smartly dressed man in his early 30s arrived at my office accompanied by a suited man in his late 30s, after handshakes and introductions we sat down to business. They produced a list of mostly heavy catering equipment telling me that this was one of many orders to follow since the Nigerian Ministry of Defense was expanding its operations in Nigeria in view of the ongoing internal conflict and that they, the NMD was planning on creating 100 more army camps throughout the nation.

I knew at the time that the internal conflict was expanding so I took the information as a matter of fact.I asked how XXXXX was and they offered me his regards adding that I should "look after them".

I went through the list they produced and at first glance I noted the correctness of the contents, sizes, electrical requirements, models and other details.A quick calculation quickly produced the figure they had earlier mentioned as the sum made available to them about US $ 300,000.

We talked for about 2 hours and I became excited that not only this was a large order but other orders would follow, provided that they as agents would receive a sizable commission. It is a well known fact that the Nigerian Ministry of Defense uses agents for all its imports and commissions are always paid to the agents. I did not have a problem with this.

They left after requesting that a Pro Forma Invoice is raised direct to them and that they, just as xxxx did previously, would be arranging their own shipment.

Business was not exactly buoyant at the time due the recession, the closure of many catering establishments and some loses generated by firms owing us money and going under, so I was elated to say the least that such a big order could soon be with us.I informed my staff and they were also very happy at this prospect of not only a first large order but more to follow.

I busily, but not hastily, begun the preparation of a PFI taking into account the large chunk of commission required by the agents.I worked over the weekend and by first thing Monday morning the PFI was ready for the agents to collect and they did round about lunchtime.

Both gentlemen turned up on Monday as agreed and collected the Pro Forma.
They assured my that full payment will be in our account within a few weeks as the MOD would take a little while to remit funds.

We earnestly begun preparations ordering stock in.

It was not until March 30th when on checking our account early in the morning I saw that a BACS transfer had been credited to our account in the sum of £186,400.00

I was due to fly out to Belarus on the Friday, April 1st so before flying out I ensured that all orders had been placed and that goods would be ready for the customers shippers to collect.

On the morning of March 30th and on seeing the money transfer credited to our account, I walked to our bankers and made thorough checks that A the funds were clear and, a big mistake here as it later proved, that the bank telephones the remitting bank verifying the validity of the funds.

The bank responded 30 minutes later advising me that having carried out checks with the remitting bank the funds were not only clear but valid.

I was quite happy naturally and begun earnestly making all arrangements before flying out to Belarus.
Well, what happened subsequently proved to be one of the biggest problems I ever faced in my life.

Friday morning, April the 1st 2011, I flew to Minsk in Belarus, on the 3rd it was my young lady's 29th birthday party in a small town called Zhlobin about 200 km away from the capital Minsk.

As on my previous visits to Belarus I was warmly welcomed and made to feel at home.Little did I know what was to happen back in London a week or so later.

My clients shippers collected most of the equipment, I had their money, they had part of their commission and everything appeared a normal business transaction, that is until a week later on my return to London.

As I'm now grilling a juicy and tender Scottish Sirloin steak, not wanting it to overcook, I prefer mine almost blue, I must leave the story and come back to it after a lonesome dinner in a practically empty house since yesterday all my personal and household effects were loaded on to a container for their onward journey to Limassol.

It should get there about the 3rd of July and I will be there to see to it.
Talk later folks....
