Another "Blasphemer" Jailed in Turkey...

Postby bill cobbett » Wed May 22, 2013 11:18 pm

Earlier today in another demonstration that no one is safe from malicious imprisonment in Erdogan's Turkey, Sevan Nişanyan, who is described as being "Turkish-Armenian", was sentenced to 58 weeks in jail on conviction for "Blasphemy".

His "blasphemous" crime was to write the following sentence in a blog...

"...It is not “hate crime” to poke fun at some Arab leader who, many hundred years ago, claimed to have established contact with Deity and made political, economic and sexual profit as a result. It is almost a kindergarten-level case of what we call freedom of expression..."

The only thing that comes close to blasphemy in the sentence is the use of; sexual "prophet".
