This was one of the worse kind of reporting I've seen for a while by Loucas Charalambous. At least he did not dispute the RoC's rights over the natural resources in it's EEZ. Who ever mentioned that these Corvettes are to be used against Turkey anyway. They will be used to protect the platforms and the workers on these rigs, which will be the responsibility of the RoC. It will cost some money to add some security towards these platforms and the workers against anyone, therefore money needs to be spent to achieve that responsibility. It costs some money to make a lot more money. It's a cost of doing business that needs to be spent despite the country's economic situation. There is a potential One Trillion Dollars worth of Oil & Gas to protect, therefore any money spent to do so is well worth it. If Turkey doesn't like these corvettes patrolling the platforms withing the RoC's EEZ, then let them try and attack these corvettes if they dare, because then they will be attacking an EU member state which will not sit well with the EU, as well as Turkey putting the lives of many foreign workers and their platforms in danger, who's countries of these companies are capable of throwing their own punches if need be at Turkey.
Turkey cannot afford to show any aggressive move towards any of the Gas platforms and she can't take over the whole island. She can barely hold onto the north at the moment given her EU membership aspirations. The only way that would have been possible, was back in 2004 with the AP. That train left the station long time ago on those dreams for Turkey. No doubt Turkey wants piece of the action of RoC's natural resources, but to get that, she will need to give up the north at the very least. As I have always believed that Turkey does not have any convictions in what she does and wants, but rather she is an opportunist, and making a deal with the RoC over the north and the natural resources that everyone can walk away a winner, would be right up Turkey's alley.
