Bananiot, whom I met a number of times is a thoroughly decent, civilized, intellectual individual and well balanced.
He has my utmost respect.

Lord Fred, don't confuse taking the piss out of the self-proclaimed intellectual sultan of Nicosia with an attack on him. I'm not a liberal btw, silly buggers are voting through all sorts of daft legislation in the UK Parliament.

This was one of the worse kind of reporting I've seen for a while by Loucas Charalambous. At least he did not dispute the RoC's rights over the natural resources in it's EEZ. Who ever mentioned that these Corvettes are to be used against Turkey anyway. They will be used to protect the platforms and the workers on these rigs, which will be the responsibility of the RoC. It will cost some money to add some security towards these platforms and the workers against anyone, therefore money needs to be spent to achieve that responsibility. It costs some money to make a lot more money. It's a cost of doing business that needs to be spent despite the country's economic situation. There is a potential One Trillion Dollars worth of Oil & Gas to protect, therefore any money spent to do so is well worth it. If Turkey doesn't like these corvettes patrolling the platforms withing the RoC's EEZ, then let them try and attack these corvettes if they dare, because then they will be attacking an EU member state which will not sit well with the EU, as well as Turkey putting the lives of many foreign workers and their platforms in danger, who's countries of these companies are capable of throwing their own punches if need be at Turkey.

Turkey cannot afford to show any aggressive move towards any of the Gas platforms and she can't take over the whole island. She can barely hold onto the north at the moment given her EU membership aspirations. The only way that would have been possible, was back in 2004 with the AP. That train left the station long time ago on those dreams for Turkey. No doubt Turkey wants piece of the action of RoC's natural resources, but to get that, she will need to give up the north at the very least. As I have always believed that Turkey does not have any convictions in what she does and wants, but rather she is an opportunist, and making a deal with the RoC over the north and the natural resources that everyone can walk away a winner, would be right up Turkey's alley.

The other day I was introduced to a *lovely* upper-crust Brit - sources artworks, antiquities and suchlike (a pretext for a job) and travels a lot to places that supply such happy-hippy rugs, pots etc. Inevitably we got into a political discussion and when I suggested Greece and Cyprus have been tied to the EU with supposed bank-bailouts so that the EU can have an assured Gas supply - without batting an eyelid he re-iterated what he was told - "But half of it belongs to Turkey does it not, what ho".

We have a long way to go folks. We not only have to protect our assets (with EU *gifts* such as the Corvettes) but we have to start making some political and legal noises as to WHY the Gas in Cyprus and the Aegean belongs firstly to the Greek people and secondly to the EU. And NONE to Turkey!

It's very simple really, the EEZ is not part of the 12 mile sovereign belt of water that Cyprus has, it is considered high seas. What Cyprus does have however is the SOLE right to commercially exploit these waters and its continental shelf. The corvettes would be basically protecting private property such as oil rigs and commercial ships working in the assigned plots.

Is anyone seriously considering that Turkey would attack the property of a US Gas company (the CIA's gas company for that)?

Or is Turkey going to attack an Italian, French or Korean interests firm?

As for its 12 mile waters, if anyone does enter with hostile intentions then they shouldn't complain if things turn ugly.

Why are the TCs on this forum getting all uppity about a defence weapon?

I think the argument is over...no Turk airforce equals no Turk army/navy...again the USA is protecting the Turks from the Greeks, forget all arguments, such as,who has the best missiles tanks and ships and the endless posts...

We don't give a shit about your hellenic crap! It's got nothing to do with us.

This is a CNG thread so you'd better respect it...

You can talk about the CNG or its arch enemy Turkey… but any other country's military is irrelevant here.

The CNGis led by a Hellenic General its army is made up of Hellenic soldiers and Cyprus has a defence treatie and the CNG is integrated with the military of HELLAS!!!

Now I know that you haven't done a military service in Cyprus or you would've known that we have no connection to Greece's military. We are completely separate, never come in contact with Greek elements and the NG General is a paid professional position that has been held by both Cypriots and Greeks over the years. It is not necessarily held by a Greek person.

As for describing Cypriot national guardsmen as "hellenic soldiers"... well I would describe you as a constipated illiterate baboon but you may not necessarily agree with me because it is my opinion!

Look, just stay out of Cypriot military discussions because you’re embarrassing us by talking utter shit.

No, you need to fuck off the forum and go join a Greek one because Cypriot hydrocarbons don’t belong to the Greek people but Cypriot people.

Your daft attempt to link two completely different countries that are 500 miles apart, one with confirmed hydrocarbon deposits and the other with nothing to show for it, is nothing short of fucking stupid so get lost!

Your testosterone surge seems to have blinded you.

Oh - and made you forgetful. Greece and Cyprus share a lot of weaponry and men - which leaves you free ..... for the Turks!

"Milise chai to kolopsaro"...when I was helping my uncles clean their " martinia" on Pentadaktylos when the Turks were invading Kyrenia, you were still a gaoro "sporo" in your daddy's scrotum....as for a Hellenic connection to the CNG there was always a mainland Hellenic General leading the Hellenic CNG..All officers in the CNG go to HELLAS for their training.. As for professional officers leading the CNG, most of them (Hellenes,Hellene Cypriots)are professionals..most officers from lt. Colonel and above come from Hellas..what more of a direct connection do you want?..

Re illiterate furniture maker cum taxi driver cum Greek poofter…

You are nothing but a nuisance trying to derail a Cypriot nationalist thread with irrelevant bollocks but nobody is interested in your Greek malakies so take a hike!
