the point however remains that both Crete and Cyprus had developed civilisations that were not Greek in nature but which peoples we know label as Mycenaean later conquered, Crete in about 1500 BC and Cyprus in about 1050 BC, and it is utterly mendacious to suggest Cyprus was empty for the so called Mycenaeans to take over, when the Archaeological evidence very clearly shows that eg Salamis and Paphos were occupied before and the time of the essentially forced Hellenisation of the Cyprus, and where foundation myths involving Homeric heroes were probably an invention to justify the dominance of the new elite.

No, there is no evidence of forced hellenisation of the island. On the contrary, Greeks and Eteo-Cypriots co-existed, but eventually Eteo-Cypriots were absorbed by the superior Greek culture (e.g. language, religion).

The language of the Eastern Roman Empire was what is NOW labeled as “Greek” but back then NOBODY called it “Greek” as there was no such place as “Greece” and there were no “Greeks”. Even the word “Byzantine” is a CONTEMPORARY one.

The problem stems from the fact that you are attaching CONTEMPORARY labels today to a scenario from the past and that of course leads to confusion and the spread of false theories.

Cyprus uses the “Greek” language because it was a standard for all those people who lived under the Eastern Roman Empire and has NOTHING to do with modern fairytales about “Greeks” coming here or going there!

Even the word “Hellenic” is a contemporary one borne out of the 1820s revolution.

Anyway, I’m getting bored of you foreign appeasing twats and I’ve also gottta research some boring stuff for work so I’ll catch you later after the football.

Yes, it's English. English is a very new language. Only came into existence roughly after the fall of Constantinople.

you are the bigot here. The fact remains that both Cyprus and Crete had developed a culture of their own without Greek/Hellenic Influence, indeed that is the thrust of the title of this topic, and they were both only later Hellenised, in Crete from about 1600 BC, in Cyprus from about 1050 BC.

What a racist point of view to suggest that Greek Culture ie language and religion were in someway innately superior.
