I don't think I have ever argued that the Minoans were in any way conquerors of an existing Cretan population and I have always been happy to accept that they like many other peoples of the Eastern med can trace the majority of their ancestry ( at least on the Maternal side) to the first permanent settlers of those regions . The conquest events came later on, and the Minoans and Cypriots were probably the victims of such conquests, which probably eliminated much of the original culture at least of the ruling classes.
However, Whether or not inferences can be drawn about cultural matters or the development of the original civilisation from such analysis is a different matter, particularly bearing in mind that proto urban civilisation was developing in the region where theses peoples likely originated at or just after they began to spread and where we do not know for sure how much cultural exchange there was. I am not arguing against the premise of local development, I have an open mind on that, simply from these two items I can't see how those inferences are drawn.
