Today my mother got a call saying that I have to go to the army. I am only 16 right now and turn 17 next year in February.
I am behind 1 1/2 years in school (because of where I come from, we start later) and I really cant afford to lose time in the army!
You will not be called up until you're 18 and if you have not finished school by then, it will be postponed!
Bottom line is you are a citizen and have a mandatory obligation! You should not be looking at ways to circumvent your obligation if you intend on living in Cyprus!
I suggest you make the most of it. Try to get a commission as an Officer Cadet. It will give you a career option if you are interested. If you are very fit and strong, then you could also try to serve in OYK or LOK. You will absolutely love and enjoy your time in the CNG. You will also make life long friends who will mean more to you than family even.
I have not served in the CNG so I can't answer any questions on what it is like but from what I heard, it is a piece of cake unless you become an Officer Cader, OYK or LOK. If that is a case then be prepared for challenges and the time of your life!
Enjoy and make the most of it!
Cypriots belittle the CNG and that is unfortunate!
Even your family will have access to you and bring you food etc! Personally, I think that is wrong! You should never be allowed out of camp, contact with family or girlfriend, no tv, no radio, no mobile phones, no newspaper and no contact with the outside world for the first 3 months.
You will have experiences you will never forget.
