What was your 'lifetime' ban for?

Water under the bridge!!
Didn't we get on well ? Maybe you were one of those mainland Greeks, I don't generally get on with them as I consider the G/Cs far superior to them!!!

No, I was one of the Greek Cypriots you didn't like because I refused to drop the prefix.

I did wonder what happened to you. Why were you banned?

My ban was imposed after I posted my last post in early February 2011.The ban was imposed after uncomplimentary words directed at the powers to be.
By the way I have never dropped the prefix, I just believe in the Cypriot nation and consider my self above all else a Cypriot and not a Greek, in the same fashion that my forefathers behaved as Paphites, Platrides and not kalamarades.Im proud of my Cypriot ancestry and I consider Cyprus as my one and only true motherland.

Miltiades, your problem, as well as that of many others, has always been to associate being "Greek" exclusively with the modern Greek state. Greek Cypriots were Greek before modern Greece came into existence. I never regarded the terms as mutually exclusive. Politics and the balance of power in the region dictated that Cyprus was never united with the modern Greek state, but that does not alter the realities. We are of course Cypriots, but our Greek heritage is undeniable amongst the sane.

Simon, I have had a belly full of debates concerning Greece, Cyprus etc. Im 67 years old and have been around the block more than once or twice.
As far as I'm concerned, although the mainland Greeks first came to Cyprus some 3,500 years, there was already a Cypriot race in existence, who is to say that either you or I are descendants of the Greeks. I agree that much of the Cypriot culture resembles that of Greece, but we are Cypriots in our own right. This foreign country, Greece, has brought nothing but pain and misery to our people, first they refused Cyprus on a plate when Britain offered it, then they, and they alone, caused Cyprus's major catastrophe, the invasion and continued part occupation of our northern parts, its the ideology that ultimately brought this disaster on our island, the same ideology that has catapulted Cyprus from a thriving economy to a pauper state. Greece, for the Greeks for the Christians, what absolute rubbish.
Long may Cyprus live as an independent nation, related to Greece but not married to Greece.
My allegiance is to my one and only one motherland, my beloved Cyprus, my adorable Stroumbi the Great !![/quote]

Miltiades, I disagree with what you say for so many reasons, too numerous to go into at this time. Suffice to say that your last post does exactly what I just highlighted. Read again my last post to you and the penny should hopefully drop.

miltiades wrote:Well, its been a long time, just over 2 years and 3 months since my last post, I'm back now for a day or so before returning to Cyprus, hopefully to knock some sense into the plonker politicians for ruining a healthy economy and taking my hard earned money, or rather stealing my dosh !Never dreamed that such a major economic disaster would ever befall on Cyprus.;
Before adding anything more I would like to extend my greetings to so many of my friends, and I start with my dear friend Deniz,
a giant of a man that I have so much respect for.
Bill and Jerry both of whom I met, before I fell asleep, Kifeas, the great man himself in all respects, our musician singer friend Kafenes, Bananiot whom I also have tremendous respect for, Halil, my dear friend who showed me around the occupied parts on many occasions, Iceman, Umit, our Aussie friends Humanist, Paphitis, the glamorous Bubbles and her other half Andy, not forgetting the political pundit Piratis, the non Cypriots Yialousa and Oracle (xxx) Nikitas from Varosi, the highly intelligent Repulse Warrior,Birkibrisly , Shazeneger !!!, a fantastic guy that I would love to meet and thank him for his generous contribution for Ayios Stephanos, and so many others excluding the absolute Plonkers !!!
Much has happened over the last 2 years, some good and some horrid, but life goes on.
I visit my beloved Cyprus almost every month, there's always a birthday, a Christening or a wedding such as the one I'm at tenting this coming Sunday and the of course the most stunningly beautiful sun rises one could experince anywhere in the world.
Sad that so many people lost their life's savings, but such a loss contributed or will contribute to the recovery of the economy so be it.
I'm coming to Cyprus absolutely ... broke and I'm wondering if GR would... buy me a drink!!!
Finally my thanks to Admin for allowing me to post again.
ps......

Enjoy your time in Cyprus, we must arrange another lunch to make up for the one postponed before Christmas. I'm quite busy until July, perhaps if you and other forumers are interested you could post here. If there is enough interest I'll start another thread.

Just a couple of early morning posts before catching my flight to Paphos, good morning Jerry, as you recall after 2 years on the pollymarbles site I had enough of them ( except Malcolm , I like you Malcolm ) SO i VERY RARELY TUNE IN.
I will be pleased to be present at a lunch gathering in London.
DT, you too were one of my favourite posters on this forum, hope you are keeping well.
Simon, I have never said that I'm not a Greek Cypriot, I recall that in my first ever post on CF I begun by introducing my self as a G/C. The difference however is that just as potatoes can be categorized as Cyprus potatoes but in essence they are ...potatatoes, just as G/Cs or T/Cs are Cypriots !
Anyway as I said earlier I don't wish to cover old ground and will stay away from the same old debates.Have a nice day my fellow Cypriot.
I intend to post real life stories, especialy the one when I ....first arrived in Victoria just over half a century ago !!!
GR loves this story
Well boys and girls, until the next time I wish you a great day,
Support the underdog especially, missed her in my opening post and I apologize.

In that case, they are still Greek!

(Unless some mass extinction took place and they were replaced purely by "Cypriots".)

I'm also sick and tired of ignoramuses berating Greece for all our woes - it's proof of why we never managed to achieve freedom from the Turks when the Greeks started revolting in 1821; and then again why we gave up our mini-effort, unlike the Cretans who revolted time and time again until they eventually regained their freedom from Turks. It smacks of hypocrisy to blame Greece for the coup generated by the USA because of our own left-leaning politics, and still to forget how many of our own countrymen helped the coupists - not least one of our own becoming a temporary president!

It smacks of self-pity also of Cypriots here, who for years have laughed at Greece's "tax-evaders" and joined in with Bankers' policies to bring down Greece for all sorts of made-up reasons and then when the same medicine is meted out to us for our bloated banks, and tax-haven status and money-laundering paradise, that we once again find it easier to blame Greece than face up to the enemies that seek to divide us.

Some of the so-called-men here, these "proud Cypriots", make me sick to the core with their whingeing mentality blaming everything on Greece (not you, Miltiades, you have always made your stance clear and it is generally level-headed on the EOKA struggle etc unlike some of the turncoats here who are quick to call others treasonous when they do not even know anything about their own country, its enemies and its real problems.)

What is this "Greek"?

If there was no country then there was no central control, no unison, no direction, no driving force, no entity, NOTHING!

Was it a country? Nope!

Was it a religion? Nope!

Was it a race? Nope!

Then what the hell was it just gays?

If it was like that then the same thing would apply for Cypriots. There were no Cypriots until 1960   And we are yet to see any Kurds. They just exist in our imagination
