Make your minds up people…

Was EOKA an ill informed and clumsy patriotic front that drove some of its people to death even though freedom was just 5 years away according to international law, or was it just a treasonous Greek led front masquerading as patriotic?

Personally, in 2013 I no longer care and neither should you.

GiG Goading? Asking what?
Your delusional...

No Mik, that is exactly what you're saying.

You seem to berate the RoC for not agreeing to a solution.

The RoC has a gun to its head, and Turkey's terms have nothing to do with what is right or justice!

Why were EOKA treasonous, even if resuming being part of the Greek state was on their agenda? According to your terms, over 90% of GCs would have been treasonous for supporting this also.

Anyhow, to whom were they treasonous? At that time, Cyprus was ruled by Britain. So are you objecting because EOKA were treasonous to Britain?

You make a good point that Cyprus at the time (1955..1959) was not independent and therefore no treasonous acts in the legal sense could be committed but…

You would expect normal healthy-minded citizens to seek independence… not swap hands from one colonialist to another!

That stinks like a seal’s breath. But like I said earlier… in 2013 this matter has become a waste of our breath!

That flag - with the cross on top of the pole - is an Orthodox church flag and if it's near Maheras, there is a monastery where Afxentiou spent his last few weeks before the British trapped him in a cave and burnt him alive.

No one forced him to be a murdering scummy terrorist

He was a man in his OWN country!

Since no one forced the British to come to Cyprus, then you must be equally celebrating the death of each and every "scummy terrorist British soldier and his scummy wife" that ever came over uninvited.

Exactly! Afxentiou was fighting for the freedom of his own homeland from the British Colonialists! The scums are CLEARLY the British soldiers who came to Cyprus for no other reason than to enslave the Cypriot people and exploit our island for their own benefit!

dont worry Sotos, there is room for you too,.

And nobody forced the security forces to wear British uniform (apart from the boys who'd been drafted and had little choice). It's a job you take the Queen's Shilling for, conscript or regular.

Get used to the fact that individuals on both sides were merely Players in the Game - and some did it so well they gained the respect of their enemies. When the fighting's over get on with your life but don't get off on other people's wars.

There was nothing treasonous about the struggle to rid Cyprus of an occupier.
The struggle was 100% justified
The colonialists made it crystal clear that Cyprus would NEVER be given independence, far too important stratigically to the occupier.
Britain might or might not have abandoned their repeated statements of NEVER.
The struggle was appropriate under the then prevailing situations.
The goal was wrong but we were absolutely, indisputably justified in demanding and fighting for our freedom.
If 3000 Falklanders have a right, as recently stated by the PM, David Cameron the Plonker, of deciding their own destiny then why deprive us and the millions of other people ruled and occupied by Britain. The answer I suppose is that we were .....terrorists and the Faulklanders ... victims. If this is not hypocrisy of the highest order I don't know what it is.
The British did what other empires did in the past, defend and preserve territories fundamental to their interests, nothing wrong in that anymore than the Cypriot struggle for liberation.
With all due respect to my British family and friends I must rebuke any nonsense about terrorists fighting for freedom,
all nations have a right to be independent FULL STOP .
