That flag - with the cross on top of the pole - is an Orthodox church flag and if it's near Maheras, there is a monastery where Afxentiou spent his last few weeks before the British trapped him in a cave and burnt him alive.

No one forced him to be a murdering scummy terrorist

He was a man in his OWN country!

Since no one forced the British to come to Cyprus, then you must be equally celebrating the death of each and every "scummy terrorist British soldier and his scummy wife" that ever came over uninvited.

Exactly! Afxentiou was fighting for the freedom of his own homeland from the British Colonialists! The scums are CLEARLY the British soldiers who came to Cyprus for no other reason than to enslave the Cypriot people and exploit our island for their own benefit!

Its just like a small "Cold War'. Posturing and threatening, each with there own stories and beliefs, history will always differ depending on who wrote it. Deep down you know that nothing is gonna really change, especially with everybody believing what they have been told by they're respective sides. Of course what is very true is that most of the things said on here would not be said without the anonymity that the forum provides, the 'yellow' streak prevails.

ps here this looks like a 'Happy Joy Joy' I love Cyprus FB page :D

There you go - you've contradicted yourself already. We wouldn't have a history of nothing changed!

Did Bolingbroke say in the midst of the 100 year war "nothing is gonna change" and leave the French to their claims?

Full Stop. End of sentence. Not history in general. The situation in Cyprus. Deadlock for over 37 years, can you really see a solution that all side agree to, untill there is a first generation that forgives?

Why should history be any different for Cyprus than any other country? I've already given you one example where people could have said the same as you did - "deadlock" - but then history rushes on and things change even if it takes 100 years to see justice.

Anyway, I'm not saying we would ever find a solution that "all sides agree to" - but what is important is that justice is done and the RoC can once again govern over its whole island without Turkish occupation. That is the right thing and that's what the EU is backing us for. It may take another 50 years because Cyprus will never relinquish her rights to the sovereignty of this island. It's precisely why it is taking so long - because the RoC has NOT relinquished its rights over Cyprus, even under intense bullying during the Annan days.

An answer, thank you... But what is justice to you isn't to others. Which is why this is a 'Cold War'. I'm assuming the refererence to the '100 Year War' and its 'injustice' is some sort of 'Brit' bashing attempt? I'll leave any comment to someone who cares....

Well then, what happened in WW2 was no justice to the NAZIs!

Is this what you mean?

At the moment, one side has a gun to the other side's head and is telling them to accept certain terms.

Now, if the one with a gun to its head suddenly accepts those terms, then all is well?

After all, all sides will then agree! So justice is served in your book!

Not Brit-bashing at all - but if you think about what just transpired, you will see that you raised "sensitivities" and deeply-felt wounds over a war fought several centuries ago; yet you deem it right to post here goading for surrender to the Turkish occupation whilst refugees are still waiting for justice to help them return to their homes.
