In a speech earlier today at the Brookings Institute in Washington, The CY Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis Kasoulides, re-iterated that CY is ready for peace... is Turkey similarly ready...???
This is a precis of his speech reported elsewhere with interim measures to get the peace process going again...
Kasoulides proposed a solution to Turkey's objection to NATO/EU political cooperation; the Republic of Cyprus will apply to enter NATO's Partnership for Peace program.
The Foreign Minister then proposed a "win-win-win" measure for Turkey and CYs on both sides of the cease-fire line...
The Republic of Cyprus will...
(a) lift its hold on certain chapters in Turkey's accession negotiations with the EU, and
(b) permit direct trade between the CYs living directly under the Occupation and the rest of the World through the port of Occupied Famagusta under EU supervision;
Turkey must withdraw from the ghost town of Varosha and return it to its rightful inhabitants.
