Well done Bill and gIG for boycotting Turkish produce. All Cypriots should do the same! :)

Funny thing is, Australia has a large Greek community! It is usually Greek Businesses or Greek Wholesalers and Importers that are importing Turkish Produce into Australia and then selling it. These wholesalers are frequented by many Greeks who do not hesitate to buy Turkish produce in order to save a buck because it is cheaper.

In effect, we have Greek profiteers importing Turkish Produce and Greeks buying the produce. It is not so bad if a non Greek would buy the produce but Greeks!!!

Was going to post links of a few Greek businesses importing Turkish produce but thought better of it.

If anyone is interested then let me know! :)

I mean if we are going to boycott VW, then maybe we should boycott these Greek Businesses for importing from Turkey as well!

What are your thoughts Bill and gIG?

Yes P, agreed, if people are profiting second-hand by trading with Turkey, they should be named, shamed and boycotted...

Personally, I don't know of any Greek businesses that import Turkish trash. I remember Cypriot shops in Green Lanes sometimes stocking specific Turkish things for those Turkish customers that asked for something directly (I suppose small shopkeepers have to watch they are not accused of racism towards their customers). But their fresh produce of fruit and veg always had Cyprus or Greece export stamps as far as I recall in noticing.

But it's almost impossible to stop companies trading with Turkey. In the end it's the Customs Union which has to be tackled.

The only thing we can do as individuals is seek to buy Greek and Cypriot goods, point out to shops why these are superior goods, ignore the Turkish imports (so that they don't leave the shelves), remind the powers that be that a boycott could be used to threaten Turkey for its continued human rights violations. In the end, accept the world is full of hypocrisy, double standards and continue to improve ...

On the matter of halloumi that's raised above somewhere and yes it's always deffo the well-known CY brands we go for...

... but it is soooo disappointingly lacking in taste nowadays... suspect they use far too much cow's milk in the mix.

Well here is one! And btw, the Turkish Community numbers about 100-200 people in that entire city. There are 70,000 Greeks which the business caters for.

Link removed! (Sorry But I can't bring myself to even slightly have any adverse impact on anyone's business) - best as gIG states, just avoid buying the stuff as much as possible.

Our products are sourced from within Australia and overseas. We are exclusive agents for manufacturers located in Australia, Greece, Italy, Spain, China, Turkey,

Yep it is mostly Greeks that buy the stuff as well!

in effect, the Problem is far more complex, Cypriot goods, and Cypriot retailers who sell Cyprus goods, need this kind of aware consumer, such as bill and Gig.

in effect, boycotting retailers of Turkish goods must be also emphasised by instead finding substitutes, as well, that come from the north, made and sold by Cypriots. it is that we have been artificially torn apart, as Cypriots. Cypriots must demonstrate solidarity amongst themselves, as well as against interlopers and profiteers.

Yes, it is far more complex ... when we think about buying produce from the CYs of the Occupied Areas...

Is it actually grown by them or by Illegal Settlers..???

... and as has been said before, what would we say to people like the refugees of Occupied Morphou if we buy Oranges grown there...???
