One of the few times I fully agree with GR. In this day and age, NATO membership is overrated. In any case NATO membership under the current circumstances is out of the question; Turkey would never allow it. As GiG pointed out before, the US already has access to the SBA's if the need ever arose.

G'day mate,

The US may have access to the SBA's but the RoC will not. I am talking about NATO membership to guarantee our territorial integrity and to gain favour with those that really hold the keys to the island's liberation.

If Cyprus were to apply, things would become interesting. Turkey has a right of veto, but exercising it may upset the US or NATO at large. It could be something that will motivate the invisible hand of America.

In the Northern territory there is a massive mobilization of US Troops. Why is it necessary here, and a deeper alliance with NATO so unnecessary?

We have the security issue to deal with. Having the RoC's security guaranteed by NATO I can live with. Greece and Turkey offer no security at all for all of us just a lot of trouble.

Hi Paphitis

If the US or Britain really wanted a united Cyprus we would not be in the position we are in now, if anyone was going to push Turkey it would have happened a hundred times over by now. On another note what makes you so sure the "invisible hand" will finally deal in your favour. Just look what just happened with the Eu and the bailout, Cyprus was sacrificed yet once again. How many times does it take?

I know Umit!

The fate of Cyprus rests with Washington!

I just can't believe my compatriots can't see this reality.

That's one way of looking at it. Which is quite depressing if you ask me. I choose to believe that the only way out is through not being played by either the US, EU, Turkey or whoever. Hiding behind the so called big powers has never seemed to work and has always inflicted damage to both sides. I still believe the most important step forward is through some sort of truth and reconciliation movement.

good night all

There are now just 237 days to go before Greece, the alleged motherland of some, the reputed founder of European Civilisation and such claimed far-ranging contributions to person-kind as the inventions of the Water Closet, Stilton Cheese and Barbie the Doll, takes over the Presidency of the European Council.

Just 237 days to go...oo..oo..oo...oh....!!! ...

I wonder if joining the dots on a Euro-map, for each country's turn at Presidency, would spell out a message?
