One of the few times I fully agree with GR. In this day and age, NATO membership is overrated. In any case NATO membership under the current circumstances is out of the question; Turkey would never allow it. As GiG pointed out before, the US already has access to the SBA's if the need ever arose.
G'day mate,
The US may have access to the SBA's but the RoC will not. I am talking about NATO membership to guarantee our territorial integrity and to gain favour with those that really hold the keys to the island's liberation.
If Cyprus were to apply, things would become interesting. Turkey has a right of veto, but exercising it may upset the US or NATO at large. It could be something that will motivate the invisible hand of America.
In the Northern territory there is a massive mobilization of US Troops. Why is it necessary here, and a deeper alliance with NATO so unnecessary?
We have the security issue to deal with. Having the RoC's security guaranteed by NATO I can live with. Greece and Turkey offer no security at all for all of us just a lot of trouble.
