Greece has always tried to appease Turkey for the last 2 decades. This is true unfortunately.

At the same time, their military was armed to the teeth and even superior in the air and at sea!

In wrapping up; it's OK for you to negotiate deals - unfreeze relationships - with Turkey in exchange for (hopefully) liberation but somehow it's laughable to you if Greece were to do the same? Open chapters. Or are you now going to carry on with some further, latent, accusation?

Greece doesn’t have enslaved territory that would warrant doing deals with the devil for her personal gain.

So if Greece is the Cyprus ally that you so often proclaim, she will only suggest opening chapters subject to major benefits for Cyprus and certainly not to appease Turkey or to show off in the EU as I SUSPECT she will do.

I have a gut feeling she will bitterly disappoint you.

BUT, it’s all speculation for now so let us “rendezvous” in a year for this!

Just as Cyprus' presidency achieved nothing worthwhile for (immediate) liberation, neither might Greece.

Yes well back to normal viewing...

The last Cyprus President came up with nothing worthwile for Cyprus. They destroyed the economy and did some real smart things such as store high explosives in metal containers in the open heat next to a major power station.

In ordef to negotiate, Cyprus needs a big backer. Unfortunately, Greece has never been willing to support Cyprus where it counts. Therefore, I think it's time to look elsewhere and strengthen relations with US, UK and NATO.

The current President is on the right path with trying to join the pfp. Let's see where that takes us. We got nothing to lose anyway.

On the matter of opening Chapters in Turkey's rubbish attempt to join the Union...

Just last week CY's very good friend and supporter ( ), Frau Merkel said Nein...

... 'til Turkey meets its obligations under the Ankara Protocol and does such things as normalising relations with the Republic, opening up air-space and ports etc.

Under my proposal this would no longer be an issue.


....And I’d LOVE to see Germany counter such a scenario that would expose them for everything they are worth!

In his first speech after being elected President Anastasiades said that Cyprus should have a closer relationship with Nato, thats never been uttered by any President of Cyprus...Merkel added that any further progress by Turkey for EU accession would have to come through Turkey fully accepting the Ankara protocol... Nato's chief stated just a few days ago that a settlement is needed in Cyprus in order to have Nato/Eu military cooperation...

When have statements like these been uttered in successive order? .....Could the crisis in the middle east ie Syria, Iran be the catalyst that progress on the Cyprus problem could materialize?.....Regardless if Greece is head of an EU organization or not.....Could this be the invisible hand of Uncle Sam at work?

Thinking about the geostrategic balance, it would make sense at least.

We really do need the invisible hand of Uncle Sam at work, this time in our favour.

Maybe with all the Oil and Gas in our EEZ and that of Israel, the situation in Syria and Iran, the RoCs strategic importance is once again at its prime. Hopefully we have the politicians that can manage it correctly!

One of the few times I fully agree with GR. In this day and age, NATO membership is overrated. In any case NATO membership under the current circumstances is out of the question; Turkey would never allow it. As GiG pointed out before, the US already has access to the SBA's if the need ever arose.
