Hi

I subscribe to Last.fm and other sites which are subject to territorial restrictions (including those of several UK bookmakers). In order to circumvent these restrictions, I have investigated using a service called Ultimate IP Changer, and also Unblock-Us.com.

What I would like to know is, what is the best means of gaining access to geographically restricted content – a proxy server, VPN, or any other means? Could anyone recommend any specific proxy/VPN, especially one which is relatively straightforward for a non-techie like myself?

A VPN is for logging remotely onto your computers when you’re not there so a proxy server is most likely what you’re looking for.

I use unblockus. Seems to work quite well for UK TV sites. (I use unblock us on the ipad).

There is also expat shield, which comes in two versions - an ad supported free version and an ad-free paid version. I found a way using firefox to avoid the ads.

I've used Unblock-us - it is excellent...

But you need to check if the sites you need to access are on its supported list...

Also check out UK Proxy Server - you can change your account on-line from proxy server to VPN depending on your needs at the time...
