On a recent visit to Cyprus, woke up one early morning and took a stroll along Limassol seafront, taking in the magnificent sunrise, the weather, although March, was warm with a few scattered clouds in the sky, sat on a bench and had a cigarette, the last in a packet of Winston red.The sea was calm and some people were already swimming.
On finishing my cigarette I crossed over the road to the nearest kiosk, open 24 hours, and asked for a packet of cigarettes,
only then realizing that my wallet was missing from my back pocket, I never usually put my wallet in the back pocket but since I wasn't wearing a jacket that was the only feasible place I could do so. I apologized to the young lady behind the counter and explained that I had lost my wallet, I thought it must have dropped out of my back pocket whilst sitting on the bench. I had some lose change in my front pocket but not enough to pay for my cigarettes.
The young assistant offered me one of her cigarettes when a voice behind me, in English, with a strong accent, said, sir I think this is yours, handing me my lost wallet.
I did not have much money in my wallet but personal items, debit cards etc.
I was over the moon since without my debit cards I would have been lost. I thanked the bearded man who found my wallet and offered him the 20 euros I had in my wallet explaining that that's all I had , foregoing my cigarette purchase. He smiled charmingly and said, "sir I do not need a reward, you buy your cigarettes and apse napsoune!!!
It appeared that whilst sitting on the bench the wallet dropped out of my back pocket and this middle aged man who, unnoticed at the time by me, was sitting on a bench close to mine. He found my wallet as I made my way and followed me into the kiosk.
He was a G/C and was originally from Famagusta.
