Hardtalk again - interview with Kasoulides

Postby Paphitis » Wed May 01, 2013 4:54 am

I saw this on BBC Asia a few days ago and I have been intending to talk about this interview here because there are a few things worthy of some debate!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tO7TLyPAm4

Firstly, I must say that this Cypriot Politician, Ioannis Kasoulides (a self confessed Annan Plan supporter) impresses me. Highly poised, calm, intelligent and very collected. Based on what I have seen, I would like to ask why he was not voted in as President instead of Christofias 5 years ago?

Another thing, I found this journalist to be especially antagonistic and provocative. Kasoulides handled himself very well and is a credit to Cyprus. There is a lot of misinformation being spread by the foreign media either deliberate or otherwise. If deliberate, Cypriots will need to be careful because the image they portray internationally is not what many would expect, or Cyprus lacks good PR and this needs to be addressed.

Agree Paphitis, Casoulides was excellent against a proper interrogator, not like the journalists we have here.

As to why he didn't beat Christophias, ask the putanas of Cypriot politics, DIKO. They will go with whoever offers them the most, just like a normal "working girl"!

At the recent elections they had to support Anastasiades because their members would have abandoned them if they had supported AKEL's so called independent candidate, Malas, and it would have been difficult for them to support Lilikas because he has been a bigger putana than DIKO switching his allegiance even more often.

If he was a supporter of Annan, how could he be considered intelligent?

Very simply, all Cypriot citizens had the right to excercise their political rights either in support of or against the Annan Plan. I do not believe there are right or wrong answers simply because we do not agree with Annan Plan!

Personally I disagreed with the Annan Plan, but equally so the supporters of the Annan Plan could ask the same questions to those against and they actually do have an argument as well!

Yeh well I agree with what you say. During election, parties prostitute themselves to the highest bidder.

Seems to me though that no matter how much they try to justify themselves, AKEL was a non starter after the last 5 years.

So you agree that you are an idiot who should stay away from Cypriot politics because your only barometer seems to be the Annan Plan?

I have been told that Ioannis Kasoulides has attention to detail befitting a US President and is aided by a PR Consultant! Attention to detail down to the colour of his tie.

Here is another interview on Al Jazeera:

Now, compare him to disastrous Christofias who would even get muddled in the English Language and make the worst of gaffes!

Yes, agree with P above that the interviewer gave Kasoulides a hard time, fair enough that's his job, but imho K's performance was no more than average. K had a lot of chances to hit back succinctly and forcefully and he missed them.
