Yes, they killed it.
Did they have to kill it? I guess not.

Hey, STUD, not many reliable sources, but heavy on FB to the point where everybody believed it to be a new case. I'm still not 100% sure

Well done to the fishermen who reeled in this mako! Several thousand fished in Florida alone every month I dont see where the problem is from fishing one beast like this out of our waters!! Unless all these fearless frogmen feel sorry for missing out on a live encounter with a 3 meter mako lol

Hello. :D

I agree it's most likely a Mako. Ferocious.

But, I don't think they fished it deliberately. Will check with them (soon), but chances are it was an unplanned encounter.

Honey dear, that does not look like a MAKO and a Great White (most feared) is even more "ferocious" (thanks to Jaws the movie) for your information at least by reputation.

MAKOS are very torpedo like and their snout is not as clearly defined but extremely sleek or hydrodynamic. They are built for speed.

OH btw, I don't agree with labeling any Shark as being "ferocious". They really are not "ferocious" and only hunt to eat. Humans are not a menu item. Sharks have received too much bad press.

As far as Fishing Legal matters are concerned, if you caught it, then you fished it! You can't be caught with a Pantagonian Tooth Fish and then say you were fishing for Tuna.

Observer + more, the chances you will encounter a MAKO is next to zero. It will detect you before you detect the MAKO, and it will not go anywhere near you. If a Shark was to attack you, you will never see it coming, and the first strike is usually to test the texture of the meat (no bite) since the possible food source is unknown to them.

Good morning all!

According to the "experts", human flesh is simply not something a Shark will go for unless desperate. In fact, they don't have a taste for human flesh and when they do encounter humans and there is no food around, what Sharks tend to do is rub against a human in a lightning attack just to get a feel for the texture and then they swim away. Now, it is unlikely that the Shark will come back for the real attack because the texture is something they are not use to or they don't like it.

I would like some credible links outlining the ferocity of Sharks towards humans. How many Shark attacks have there been in Cyprus and how many around the world? What are the chances of being attacked?

I use to fear them, like you, but have had some experience with Sharks and have a better understanding of the risks involved (negligible) and also experienced and interacted with them up close. They really do not deserve their ferocious reputations. In fact, a Great White is as graceful as a Whale Shark. Truly majestic!

The movie Jews was the biggest rubbish out of Hollywood. Sharks do not attack or take human tourists taking a dip at the beach, even if the opportunity presented itself.

Also, recreational Shark fishing is wrong wherever it occurs. Makos and Great Whites are a protected species and are threatened. The Americans allow it, in Australia you would get yourself into a lot of trouble. Australian Customs Aircraft also work for Fisheries, and the Government use these aircraft to monitor fishing activities and on many occasions the Navy can get involved and a boarding party dispatched.

Thanks and welcome!
