There have been no recorded shark attacks in Cyprus, there are no whales either. Sting rays and when it some times the weather causes jellyfish to appear - They are red and easily spotted - The beaches also put warnings out when there are Jelly Fish - But they have not been a problem.

After some reading... yes agreed ..and further think it's a Longfin Mako... which are the rarer of the the Makos and which is on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Vulnerable List... :(

I believe Shark Attacks in Cyprus are unheard of.

Mako Sharks are generally in deep water, and pose no risk to humans.

Generally speaking, Shark Attacks are extremely rare. Statistically, there is more chance of being killed in a plane crash.

In Australia, there are only 2-3 Shark Attacks recorded per year, and they are around even in close proximity sometimes on popular beaches such as Bondi, Scarborough, Manly and so forth.

When Shark Attacks do occur, it is generally a case that the Shark has mistaken its target for a Seal or Turtle. That is why, nearly on all occasions, Shark attacks occur on popular Surf Beaches. They, on rare occasions, mistake the silhouette of a surfer for a Seal or large turtle.

I talk from some experience with Sharks. Have been in the water with Great Whites (in a cage), in open water with Grey Nurse, Shovel Nose Sharks, Lemon Sharks, Tiger Sharks, Reef Sharks such as Black Tips and White Tips. Have had sharks swim around me and over the top of me. The scariest was the Tiger Shark. Great Whites are probably the most dangerous. The most spectacular Shark I saw in close proximity is when I swam with a Whale Shark. It was eye ball to eye ball and the Shark was about 6 meters.

The most interesting time was when you are surrounded by many Black Tips. It is intimidating and scary when you see them school around you and swim towards you to suss you out, but they have a good temperament and will only attack you if you threaten them.

Humans are usually not on their menu.

Years ago, I use to fear them like many people. Now I just respect them and they are beautiful.

The are a very important part of the eco system. Many species are endangered now due to Shark Fin fishing. If they disappear, the entire eco system is at risk.

Sharks need to be protected. The authorities need to legislate against fishing for any Shark in Cyprus.

In Oz you would be in serious trouble!

Cypriots respect the environment and Sharks. Those do not need to educate themselves about Sharks.

That's no Mako.

That is a 100% juvenile Great White shark.

On the tuna run from Malta/ Adriatic I bet. Those areas are breeding grounds for great whites, although their migratory patterns remain a mystery for the most part.

i wonder where the mother might be.
