Going for £1 or €1.1 ...

- Housing crisis leads to sell off of homes at £1.

I think it’s a daft comparison by the Guardian because that uninhabitable thing on the left is an instant liability of rates and other expenses and I’ll bet they won’t even let you knock it down so why buy it?

What they don't tell you is that these houses are in the absolute worst part of the city ..... An area riddled with drugs, crime, prostitution and about 90% immigrant dominated ( that's not a racist comment merely a fact) .
I've intermittently lived in the city for 40 years and a shitty 1 bed apartment in pafostan is at least 100000 times more desirable

These are precisely the type of neighborhoods they should be targeting for revitalisation. I stayed in a similar looking house whilst visiting a friend in one of the other areas of Stoke on Trent over 20 years ago now and I was really taken with how sweet those Victorian workmen's cottages are (perfect 2 up 2 down). They were well built - better than the breeze-block estates that go up now.

It's much better to renovate then knock down and rebuild.

Agree with you 100% - my first house in the UK was a 150 year old four roomed single story terrace, typical of many built in Sunderland, renovated in the 1980's by the previous owners, which I happily lived in for 17 years. Just as long as it does not become yuppie land as happened in the east end of London.

IMO, England needs some CY developers and cheap, i.e. illegal, workers. 8)
