Sorry Sotos, but Australia is a good example for Cyprus to learn from and emulate for your own sake because in 200 years it has come a long way and achieved a lot.

There is nothing Australia would not do for Cyprus if you put in the effort to develop good relations. It could even remove Turkey as it removed Indonesia from East Timor. On the other hand it has been proven that Greece won't do anything for Cyprus.

but the there are some here eg Kuru GiG who refer to the alleged blood lines from Myceneans who supposedly came here in 1100 BC or so and brought Greek Culture to the Island, when the latest reseach suggests that few came here (let alone heroes from the Trojan war) and the probablity is that Cyprus is an ancient victim of the sort of imperialism that you now condemn, with a likley partial conquest event in about 1050 BC by those few but certainly under Alexander the Great and a few years later on the Ptolomys, who invaded and conquirted the island and forcibly imposed Greek language etc on the then residents.

Not only those two epic moments! There was continual mixing (many waves of people back and forth, trading etc) between mainlanders and those on Cyprus for thousands of years before Mycenaeans or the Ptolemies. These were only two epic, identifiable, historically recorded events - but there are many continuous effluxes and influxes between the mainland and Cyprus that were not recorded as EPIC - just simply day to day living which can be built up from similarities of artifacts etc.

If we erase these connections, this continuity, it will make the job of the Turks easier to lay claim and continue its colonisation of our island. We shall turn to drink and gambling like other diminishing aborigines that have lost their territories.

No! At the moment all Cyprus gets is lip service (unfortunately) and Cypriot Politicians must accept responsibility for that because their international Diplomatic astuteness leaves a lot to be desired.

All it takes is to develop excellent relations with such a country to the point where this country will bend over backwards (East Timor achieved this) to fight the good cause and influence the big powers to do something for a change rather than give the usual lip service.

It's a better option than Greece or Cuba which are not taken seriously by anyone.
