BBC Hardtalk - get your facts right

Postby Paphitis » Fri Apr 12, 2013 2:54 pm

Got a glimpse of BBC Hardtalk.

Discussion was that Cyprus requires another bail out of 7 Billion. OK so far.

But then the presenter said to his host that the richer "north" will need to fund the poorer "south" for many more years.

I really have no clue where they get their facts from. I have some suspicion that this incorrect and insulting remark is deliberate. I keep telling you guys to STOP attacking them (Britain, US etc) because I fear we Cypriots are not very well liked and this has been the case for decades.

Either this or this journalist is down right stupid which I do not rule out.

Surely he should be aware that it is the richer "south" that funds the poorer TCs with pensions, health services, social security and other things?

Cyprus needs better PR and to branch out to other countries like Britain and US as well as many more.

Have to check because I only got a glimpse of it in a noisy lobby.

Heard them talk about Cyprus specifically and then he said the "north" will need to support the "south".

Makes sense now.

May need to retract...

Yes the talk is all about the "wealthy" (joke) "northern Europeans" compared to the "poorer" "southern Europeans". Better known as "cold states" and "warm states".

The EU is soooo integrated we have a north-south divide already...

Well I am happy to retract.

Clearly I didn't get all of it and started to fill in the blanks with the worst assumptions.

Happy to be wrong. :)

Start at Calais and draw a line down towards Milan, continue over Greece and nip down fast to Cyprus. All the above are the "rich" northern European states (read liars) and the ones below are the ones who have a life!

(The UK is out in the cold entirely. But have you heard Cameron is taking his kids on an all expenses - taxpayers - paid trip to a German castle to spend the weekend with Merkel and get friendly and so that his kids can have one-upmanship at school on Monday?)

I agree with you. The average northern European lives poorly in old ratholes, buying food from Lidl or Tesco, riding slow buses and trains, and suffering from the bad weather.

BTW, Geneva, Switzerland falls in the southern part... :D
