Btw, what the igloo boy forgot to tell you is that capital controls ares still in place in Iceland 4 years on! Iceland is a good example of what NOT to do in Cyprus.

Capital control restrictions are an impediment to everything positive that needs to be done to get us out of this mess and can only guarantee stagnation and depression.

I hope the government of Cyprus lifts them very soon even at the risk of bank deposits flying away, so that the recovery process may commence.

That won't happen for a few more years, capital control are there for a reason...micro economic lending bypassing the banks through Cyprus' refugee lending network might be the best way to get money into the economy..Cyprus' government will definitely have a surplus by the end of next year..

I remember capital controls all over Europe in the 70's (not that they have ever been lifted, just the amounts have gone up). The worst part was having customs controls searching your stuff before leaving a country not just upon entering. But I guess with all the extra security measures we've had to put up with from terrorist threats recently, it's not going to make much difference to the many innocents who have nothing to hide.

No granny, not custom controls, capital controls..money that's in banks is controlled ie:through the amount withdrawn or loaned or transferred...do you have a good "poxamadi" recipe?

Yes little toddler in nappies - capital controls also include how much money you have in your handbag when you go on a plane etc.

They affect the little man (and little old lady) a lot more than they affect the businessmen who dodge their way round loopholes to get over these hindrances!

Wet, wet, wet behind the ears ...

Custom controls not relevant, they've been there before crisis and will be there after. Capital controls are in place now fir the first time because of the crisis and are there so capital doesn't leave Cyprus ' accounts which could raise the debt cyprus' banks would owe...
